Story Transcript:
En: Ivana stood on the edge of Stradun, the main street of Dubrovnik's Old Town.
Hr: Oko nje pulsirala je festivalska atmosfera.
En: Around her, a festival atmosphere pulsed.
Hr: Zvuci glazbe, miris pečenih kestena i živahni razgovori prolaznika ispunjavali su ljetnu večer.
En: The sounds of music, the smell of roasted chestnuts, and the lively conversations of passersby filled the summer evening.
En: Yet, in her heart, there was unrest.
En: She was searching for her brother, uncertain if she even wanted to find him.
Hr: Mateo je negdje u gužvi.
En: Mateo was somewhere in the crowd.
En: The last time they spoke was a year ago, after a big fight.
Hr: Od tada, šutnja.
En: Since then, silence.
Hr: Njihova je majka često zamišljena, želeći pomirenje svojih dvoje djece.
En: Their mother was often pensive, wishing for the reconciliation of her two children.
En: Ivana decided to come here, to the festival, for her sake.
En: She figured that the crowd and the cheerful atmosphere might ease the tension.
Hr: Ivana je hodala među šarenim štandovima, tražeći poznato lice.
En: Ivana walked among the colorful stalls, looking for a familiar face.
En: Finally, after a long search, she spotted Mateo by a small fountain.
En: He planned to remain unnoticed, but it was obvious that he was also observing the festivities around him.
En: Mateo turned, his face expressionless.
Hr: "Tako dugo", reče, glasom punim sumnje.
En: "So long," he said, his voice full of doubt.
Hr: Ivana duboko udahne.
En: Ivana took a deep breath.
Hr: "Molim te, nećemo o prošlosti. Mama želi da budemo zajedno", kaže s naporom da ostane smirena.
En: "Please, let's not talk about the past. Mom wants us to be together," she said, striving to stay calm.
Hr: Mateo se namršti, očito nelagodnog osjećaja.
En: Mateo frowned, clearly uncomfortable.
Hr: "Jednostavno... ne zaboravljam lako", prizna tiho.
En: "I just... don't forget easily," he admitted quietly.
Hr: Ivana ga pogleda u oči.
En: Ivana looked him in the eyes.
Hr: "Niti ja", svejedno kaže, "ali svejedno sam ovdje."
En: "Neither do I," she said nonetheless, "but I'm still here."
En: As they continued talking, the noise around them seemed to grow louder.
Hr: Prolaznici ih guraju, bend je počeo svirati nešto glasno i veselo.
En: Passersby jostled them, and a band began playing something loud and cheerful.
En: Suddenly, above them, the sky lit up with fireworks over the entire square.
En: That was the moment when Ivana finally let her tears fall.
Hr: "Mi smo obitelj, Mateo", vikne iznad pucanja vatrometa.
En: "We are family, Mateo," she shouted above the cracking of fireworks.
Hr: "Možemo li pokušati iznova?"
En: "Can we try again?"
En: "Maybe we can," he sighed, his eyes softening.
Hr: Jednostavan trenutak, ali nije potreban nikakav daljnji razgovor.
En: A simple moment, but no further conversation was needed.
Hr: Dok su šareni plamenovi osvjetljavali noć, Ivana i Mateo započeli su tihi razgovor.
En: As the colorful flames lit up the night, Ivana and Mateo began a quiet conversation.
Hr: Bio je to početak nečega novog.
En: It was the beginning of something new.
Hr: Bez riječi su krenuli kroz gomilu, polako ostavljajući prošlost iza sebe.
En: Without words, they moved through the crowd, slowly leaving the past behind.
En: Mother would be happy, Ivana knew, and Mateo—and perhaps herself—had found peace.
