58. Organic Awards: flying the flag in Europe for organic food and farming

C'est un sujet récurrent dans Nourrir l‘Europe : le mécontentement des agriculteurs face à la charge administrative. Au cœur du malaise : les longues heures consacrées à remplir des formulaires perçus parfois comme incompréhensibles, qui conditionnent l’obtention des subventions européennes. Or ces aides sont devenues indispensables à la survie des exploitations dans un contexte où les prix des denrées agricoles ne couvrent pas toujours les coûts de production. Le 59e épisode du podcast s‘intéresse aux solutions proposées par la Commission européenne pour faciliter la vie des agriculteurs. Ces solutions se présentent sous la forme d’un important train de mesures dit paquet de simplification, qui doit encore être approuvé par les autres institutions européennes. Pour nous expliquer le contexte et le contenu du paquet de simplification, nous avons tendu notre micro à Carl Ljungqvist, un jeune éleveur suédois, aux conseillers agricoles Lovisa Filipsson en Suède et John Greaney en Irlande et à Bence Mayor, chef adjoint de l'unité « Durabilité économique » à la Direction générale de l’Agriculture et du développement rural de la Commission européenne.

Regular listeners will be familiar with the frustrations that European farmers face, trying to comply with the rules and regulations of the Common Agricultural Policy. In Episode 59 of "Food for Europe," we discuss the plans underway to simplify those rules and regulations and help farmers get their subsidy payments earlier. At this stage, however, the plan is still a work in progress. For the package to take effect, it must first be approved by other EU institutions – such as the European Parliament and the Council. Folge des Podcasts geht es um die Antwort der Europäischen Kommission auf diese Unzufriedenheit: das Vereinfachungspaket, das darauf abzielt, die Arbeit der Landwirte zu erleichtern. Das Paket liegt auf dem Tisch, derzeit handelt es sich um einen Vorschlag der Kommission, der noch von den anderen europäischen Institutionen genehmigt werden muss. Um uns die Hintergründe und den Inhalt des Vereinfachungspakets zu erklären, haben wir mit Bence Mayor von der DG Agri gesprochen, mit dem jungen Landwirt Carl Ljungqvist, aus Jönköping in Südschweden, sowie mit den Landwirtschaftsberatern Lovisa Filipsson (Jönköping) und John Greaney (Dublin, Irland).

Depuis le 1er juillet, le Danemark occupe la présidence tournante du Conseil de l'Union européenne. Le 58ème épisode de « Nourrir l’Europe » s’intéresse aux priorités du Danemark pour l’agriculture européenne, et se penche sur une agriculture danoise en plein tournant écologique. Dans les années à venir, le pays de 6 millions d’habitants va en effet s’atteler à mettre en œuvre un plan ambitieux pour réduire les émissions carbonées du secteur agricole : l’accord vert tripartite. De quoi s’agit-il ? Comment a-t-il été possible de dégager un compromis dans un contexte où la compétitivité devient un impératif ? En quoi cette initiative danoise peut-elle inspirer les autres Etats-membres ? Pour en débattre, « Nourrir l’Europe » donne la parole à Christian Orthmann Andersen, agriculteur danois et président de LandboUngdom, une organisation de jeunesse rurale, à Niels Peter Nørring, directeur climat du Conseil danois de l'agriculture et de l'alimentation qui représente tous les acteurs de la chaîne agro-alimentaire, ainsi qu’à Neda Skakelja, chef de l'unité chargée des États membres nordiques et baltes (Danemark, Suède, Finlande, Estonie, Lettonie et Lituanie) à la direction générale de l'agriculture et du développement rural de la Commission européenne.

Seit dem 1. Juli dieses Jahres hat Dänemark den rotierenden Vorsitz im Rat der Europäischen Union inne. In 58. Folge von 'Nahrung für Europa' besprechen wir Dänemarks ehrgeizigen Plan für den Vorsitz, darunter den Abschluss der Verhandlungen über das Vereinfachungspaket für die Landwirtschaft, Anstrengungen zur Erleichterung des Lebens für Landwirte sowie die Förderung von Innovation, Nachhaltigkeit und Wettbewerbsfähigkeit im Sektor. Das große Thema der nächsten Jahre in der dänischen Landwirtschaft wird jedoch die Umsetzung des Grünen Dreierpakts sein – Dänemarks ambitionierter Plan zur Reduktion der CO2-Emissionen. Natürlich passt nicht für alle EU-Länder dasselbe Modell in der Landwirtschaft, aber kann das dänische Modell für eine nachhaltige Zukunft ein Vorbild für andere Staaten sein? Since July 1st of this year, Denmark has been holding the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union. In episode 58 of 'Food for Europe', we discuss Denmark's ambitious plan for the Presidency including wrapping up negotiations on the agricultural simplification package, efforts to make life easier for farmers, as well as promoting innovation, ensuring sustainability and competitiveness in the sector. But the big story over the next few years around Danish farming will be the implementation of the Green Tripartite agreement, Denmark's firm plan to reduce carbon emissions. Of course, one size does not fit all in farming across the EU but can the Danish model for a sustainable future be an example for other states to follow in the future? European wines enjoy a reputation for excellence throughout the world and provide 2.9 million jobs in the European Union. But in many regions, wine is much more than its market value - it's a heritage, the backbone of local identity. But now, with consumption at an all-time low, production costs soaring and the threat - sometimes existential - of climate change, the wine industry has its back up against the wall: to overcome the crisis, it is going to have to adapt. This is the theme of the 56th episode of our Food for Europe podcast. The situation is complex, which is why the European Commission's response consists of a multitude of measures and aids that can be modulated according to the regional and national situation of the vineyard concerned. We talk to Simone Loose, professor of business economics in the wine and drinks sector at the University of Geisenheim in Germany; Valentine Picant, co-owner and manager of Château Hostens-Picant, east of Bordeaux; Luca Rigotti, chairman of Copa-Cogeca's ‘Wine’ working group; and Lavinia Stan, market analyst in the wine sector at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development.
