Michael Dutro has been reading force plate data since 2019. In that time he's seen maybe five golfers produce their vertical force too early. Everyone else is late.

Michael is The Force Plate Guy. He coaches out of Measured Golf in Michigan, is one of around a hundred TrackMan Master certified coaches in the world, and was one of the first in the US to put force plates to work with golfers.

In this episode we get into:
- What ground reaction forces are, and what they show that a camera can't
- Lateral, rotational and vertical force, and why sequence comes before size
- Why he wants to see more brake than gas
- How late most amateurs brake with the lead leg, and what that costs
- Why practising your swing won't raise your vertical force
- Body up, arms down: the medicine ball slam and lunge throw he swears by
- Torque versus rotation
- How he runs a first session, and why he teaches before he coaches

For me, this is the case for testing before training. Force has to be built, then sequenced, then made fast. That's the order we follow with every golfer we coach: Foundations, Strength, Speed and Power.
