Why Your Mediumship Evidence Still Feels Too Generic

Why does your mediumship evidence sometimes stay generic, even when you know you can go deeper? Evidential medium Bree Swanson joins Courtney Dawson to explore what can keep developing mediums stuck at surface-level information and what changes when you stop trying to control the reading. Bree is an evidential medium and intuitive artist whose work is rooted in integrity, connection, and respect for Spirit's intelligence. After experiencing personal loss, her understanding of grief and the continuity of life became an important part of how she approaches mediumship and the people she serves. In this conversation, Courtney and Bree unpack the pressure mediums can put on themselves to get the reading "right." They discuss why relying too heavily on formulas or predetermined categories can make it harder to follow the individuality of the Spirit communicator, especially when the evidence doesn't make sense to you yet. You'll hear: • How to move beyond generic evidence in a mediumship reading • Why you don't need to understand Spirit's evidence before giving it • How perfectionism and self-judgement can affect your mediumship • Why unusual evidence may become some of the strongest information in a reading • How to trust the direction of a reading without forcing the communication Bree also shares examples from her own mediumship readings where following unexpected information led to highly personal evidence, including experiences that challenged assumptions about how a Spirit communicator should present. If you've taken mediumship classes, practised your readings, and still find yourself second-guessing the evidence you receive, this episode will help you look more closely at what may be happening between receiving the information and actually allowing yourself to give it. How does Spirit communicate with mediums? Courtney Dawson explores how your clairs, memories, emotions, physical sensations and personal associations can shape the way you receive and interpret information from Spirit. Your teacher may see full scenes while you receive one quick image. Another medium may hear complete sentences while you receive a word, followed by a feeling and a sudden knowing. If your mediumship does not look like theirs, that does not automatically mean your connection is weaker. In this episode, Courtney explains why two mediums can connect with the same Spirit communicator and receive different information. One may recognize the person through a visual scene. Another may understand their personality, emotions or the way they expressed love. You'll learn: How Spirit may communicate through your memories and personal references Why one quick image can contain several pieces of evidence How your clairs may naturally work together during a reading Why your fears, expectations and past experiences can affect interpretation How to recognize when something personal has entered the communication Why your unique mediumship process still needs evidence and honest feedback Courtney also explores the role of personal development in mediumship development. When you understand your normal thoughts, emotional patterns and physical state, it may become easier to recognize when something new enters your awareness during a reading. A personal association does not always mean you have made the information up. Instead of immediately rejecting it, remain curious. Ask what part of the memory, sensation or reference belongs to the communicator, then allow the evidence and the recipient's feedback to show you whether you understood it correctly. Your mediumship does not need to resemble your teacher's mediumship. You need strong foundations, ethical standards and enough practice to understand how Spirit works through you. If your mediumship business feels out of alignment, you may assume you need a new offer, website, price or brand. But what if the real problem sits underneath your marketing? When you finish readings questioning whether they went well, it becomes difficult to speak confidently about your work, invite someone to book or charge appropriately for your time. In this episode, Courtney Dawson explains how your mediumship development and business confidence affect one another. She explores why discomfort does not always mean your business is moving in the wrong direction and how to identify the specific area creating instability. You'll examine four parts of your mediumship business: Whether you trust the service you are asking clients to purchase Whether your offer clearly explains what the client is booking Whether your message matches the work you can confidently deliver Whether your professional boundaries allow you to continue serving clients responsibly Courtney explains how uncertainty can follow you into a mediumship reading. You may begin seeking the recipient's approval, giving information too quickly, adding psychic guidance, extending the appointment or taking responsibility for the client's entire emotional experience. You'll also learn why a clear offer matters. A mediumship reading, psychic reading and intuitive card reading are different services. When they are combined into one vague session, you and the client may arrive with completely different expectations. Courtney guides you through a four-part business audit to help you identify whether the real gap is within your mediumship, offer, message or boundaries. Instead of trying to repair everything at once, you'll choose the area creating the most instability and work on that first. Your business may need stronger mediumship, a clearer offer, more direct messaging or one boundary you are finally ready to hold. Mediumship confidence does not always come from taking another course. If you understand the teachings but still second-guess yourself after every reading, you may be dealing with an integration gap. You know what the clairs are. You understand blending, evidence and sitting in the power. You may have even delivered accurate evidence that helped a recipient recognize their loved one. But once the reading ends, the questions begin. Did I really connect with Spirit? Did I give enough evidence? Was the recipient only being polite? Was the reading actually as good as I thought? In this episode, Courtney Dawson explores the difference between learning about mediumship and being able to use that knowledge confidently during a real reading. Short-term mediumship courses can give you valuable information, exercises and new ways of working. The difficulty begins when you collect several different methods without having enough time, repetition, observation and personalized feedback to understand how your own mediumship works. You'll learn: Four signs that your confidence problem may be an integration problem Why repeatedly changing your method can make your connection harder to understand How relying on the recipient's reactions can affect your confidence Why advice like "trust more" or "get out of your head" is often too vague to help How deliberate practice and clean feedback build a process you can rely on A simple one-month plan for strengthening one area of your mediumship at a time Courtney also explains why giving more readings is only helpful when your practice has a clear purpose. You'll learn how to choose one skill, observe what happens during the reading and make one useful adjustment before practising again. Before registering for another mediumship course, ask yourself: Do I genuinely need new information? Or do I need more practice, observation and support with what I have already learned? Is it Spirit or your imagination? If you keep second-guessing what you receive during mediumship readings, being told to "just trust it" probably hasn't helped. You see an image, hear a name, or feel something unexpected. Before you've even said it out loud, you're wondering whether you made it up. Or you give the information, your recipient says no, and suddenly you're questioning the whole reading. In this solo episode, I'm breaking down how I teach discernment in evidential mediumship, including the difference between receiving an impression, translating it, and adding a story that wasn't there. Because sometimes the detail your recipient couldn't understand was an assumption you attached to the original impression. Learning to notice where that happens gives you something specific to work on. We'll get into: How to separate what you received from what you interpreted or assumed. Four areas of discernment to help you examine your mediumship evidence: origin, independence, continuity, and verification. Why an impression feeling different isn't enough to establish where it came from. How to handle a "no" during a mediumship reading, including recognising when you've simply got something wrong. A five-step process for those moments when you're unsure what to say. A simple reading audit to spot patterns in your evidence, assumptions, and recipient feedback. You don't have to force every detail to fit or wait until you feel completely certain before speaking. We'll explore how to communicate responsibly, stay open to feedback, and recognise when it's time to let a piece of information go. Want support putting this into practice? Inside The Connected Spirit Membership, you'll find weekly practice circles, live training and mentorship, a learning portal, and a community of developing mediums who understand the second-guessing. It's a place to practise what you're learning, receive feedback, and better understand your own mediumship process. Join The Connected Spirit Membership

Is mediumship evil? If you were raised to believe it was, that belief doesn't leave just because you stopped believing the rest of it. In this solo episode Courtney takes you back to her first mediumship development circle, when her head started turning on its own and she thought a spirit had taken her over. Her teacher told the spirit to close their eyes. Then she asked them to step back, and they did. What was actually happening was blending with Spirit. Nobody had given her that word yet, so she reached for the only word she had. Evil. This episode is about what religious conditioning does to a developing medium, why safety in a circle doesn't cancel what you were taught at five years old, and why having language for what you're receiving is what erases the fear. Who this is for: developing mediums carrying religious guilt alongside real spiritual experiences. In this episode: Is mediumship evil, and where that belief comes from  What it feels like when a spirit blends with you Why her teacher asked the spirit to step back How the first seven years of childhood shape what feels dangerous Why language calms fear faster than willpower What spiritual protection means when it isn't rooted in fear Why not having all the answers stopped being a problem Connect with Courtney Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mediumcourtneydawson/ Website: https://mediumcourtneydawson.com Connected Spirit Membership https://www.skool.com/theconnectedspiritschoolmember/about blending with spirit, mediumship development, spirit communication, religious guilt, spiritual protection, evidential mediumship, mediumship mentor, psychic medium, altered states of consciousness, trust in Spirit, ethical mediumship

Spiritual healing, a stroke at 25, and a childhood spent inside the spiritualist tradition. In this plain spoken conversation, Ash Robinson talks with Courtney about what it looks like to live this work rather than study it from the outside. Ash is a third generation spiritualist, ordained minister and practising medium. He serves as vice president and minister at Wimbledon Spiritualist Church and president and minister at Hackbridge Spiritualist Church in the UK. He is the author of Spirituality Simplified and hosts Being Spiritual on SPTV, bringing spiritualist mediumship and spiritual philosophy to live audiences online. Outside the church he has spent over two decades in UK public service leadership, and he is a rugby coach, community organiser and father of three. Belief in life after death was never something Ash had to be convinced of. It was the water he grew up in. Mediumship was Tuesday nights and Sunday mornings. Healing was something you tapped into when someone you loved needed it, what his eight year old now calls the free Wi-Fi. But at 25, in the middle of a hectic career and a busy life, he had a major stroke. His family was told the damage was permanent. What happened over the following days, and how his neurologist described it afterward, changed the direction of his entire calling. Courtney and Ash also get into what it means to teach spirituality in plain English, why he has reclaimed the word woo woo as a badge of honour, and how his eleven year old came up with the clearest definition of mediumship either of them has heard. Together they explore: What growing up as a third generation spiritualist is really like  Why his first formal training was learning how to switch mediumship off How a medium brought his friend through with his personality completely intact The warning signs of a stroke at 25 that his family nearly missed Absent healing, prayer, and what his neurologist could not explain Why he describes the spiritual connection as free Wi-Fi anyone can log into Writing a book with dyslexia when reading has always been the hard part What a lyceum is, and why he is rebuilding one for a new generation Connect with Ash Robinson https://www.playatthebridge.co.uk/ash-robinson-medium Connect with Courtney Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mediumcourtneydawson/ Website: https://mediumcourtneydawson.com Connected Spirit Membership, her structured learning portal built around the Connected Spirit Method https://www.skool.com/theconnectedspiritschoolmember/about Mediumship Mastery Circle, ten months of formal training in ethical evidential mediumship, starting Tuesday 8 September 2026 https://mediumshipmasterycircle.netlify.app/ Book a reading with Courtney https://mediumcourtneydawson.com/ 📌 Subscribe to The Connected Spirit Podcast so you never miss an episode that meets you exactly where you are on your spiritual journey.

If you're pushing to learn mediumship as fast as you possibly can so you can finally go professional, this episode is for you. Courtney has noticed the same pattern across every level inside The Connected Spirit School. Brand new mediums, intermediate mediums, mediums about to make the leap. All of them carrying the same pressure, and that pressure is doing real damage. It affects what they retain. It stops them moving into the power and holding the link for a full reading. And it drowns out the guidance they're actually asking for. The reason is simple. Mediumship gets filtered through the mind, but at its core it's soul to soul. When the active mind runs the show, the connection isn't there. Courtney shares what six months away from readings after major surgery taught her about seasons and divine timing, ten years into working professionally. Then she teaches the fix she uses with her own students, including the elevator visualisation for dropping out of the head and into the heart. It takes about fifteen seconds. She can see the shift in the aura when it happens. In this episode: What pressure does to retention, the link, and clear guidance Why the ego mind needs a leash, not an eviction The elevator visualisation for dropping from head to heart A morning practice for before your feet hit the floor Why she resets three times a day, not just at sunrise What six months away from readings taught her about divine timing Connect with Courtney Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mediumcourtneydawson/ Website: https://mediumcourtneydawson.com The Connected Spirit Membership  https://www.skool.com/theconnectedspiritschoolmember/about Mediumship Mastery Circle, ten-month structured mentorship  https://mediumshipmasterycircle.netlify.app/ 📌 Subscribe to The Connected Spirit Podcast so you never miss an episode that meets you exactly where you are on your spiritual journey. mediumship development, evidential mediumship, ethical mediumship, spirit communication, mediumship training, nervous system regulation, divine timing, spiritual mentorship, psychic medium, heart-centred practice, trust in Spirit, sitting in the power

If your mediumship development doesn't look linear or fast, and you've started to wonder whether something's wrong with you, this solo episode is for you. Somewhere along the way, the spiritual community decided mediumship has to look a certain way: linear, fast, with obvious progress every week. Courtney names that expectation and offers the reassurance most developing mediums never get. Nothing is wrong with you. Mediumship isn't manufactured, it's experiential. The plateaus that feel like failure are usually integration... your soul and your spirit team letting the work settle in the body, not just the mind. Drawing on 11 years of professional practice and 9 years of training mediums worldwide, Courtney makes the case that the mediums who develop aren't the most gifted in the room. They're the ones who stayed. In this episode: Why mediumship development is non-linear, and how "progress every week" sets you up to feel behind What a plateau actually is, and why it's often the most important work you'll do The difference between connecting to Spirit and connecting on demand, under pressure, for a stranger Why knowing your own energy well enough to tell what isn't yours is a core skill Why longevity is a skill almost nobody teaches, and how staying in community protects it Connect with Courtney Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mediumcourtneydawson/ Website: https://mediumcourtneydawson.com The Connected Spirit Membership: doors are open, join here https://www.skool.com/theconnectedspiritschoolmember/about Join the Waitlist for the Mediumship Mastery Circle https://mediumshipmasterycircle.netlify.app/ 📌 Subscribe to The Connected Spirit Podcast so you never miss an episode that meets you where you are. ethical mediumship, evidential mediumship, mediumship development, mediumship training, mediumship mentor, spiritual growth, psychic medium, trust in Spirit, spirit communication, intuitive development, structured mediumship, sacred service

If you've spent years in development still asking "is this me or is this Spirit?" with nobody around to tell you, this conversation is going to feel familiar. In this heart-led interview, Courtney Dawson sits down with Cathy Hedderwick, a student in the advanced Mediumship Mastery Circle. Cathy came to mediumship after retiring, green as green can be, and spent her early development in a once-every-other-week lecture-style class where the questions piled up faster than she could ask them. She loved the work. She just wasn't having fun. She was sweating before every reading, lying about how great it felt, and quietly wondering if she'd ever trust a single thing she received. Almost a year of weekly circle later, Cathy is channeling, giving clear readings, and showing up as a real anchor in the group. Together they talk about what actually shifted, and why so much of it came down to one thing she'd never had before: real feedback from a mentor who was tuning into her work in real time, validating the link so she could stop second-guessing and go deeper. There's a moment where Cathy describes noticing Courtney in the Zoom room while she's working, knowing that if Courtney sees the same Spirit she's talking to, there's no room for doubt anymore. That's the whole thing in one sentence. In this episode: Why fragmented, lecture-style training leaves so many developing mediums anxious and stuck What it actually feels like to not trust your abilities even when people tell you you're great The difference real-time mentor feedback makes when your mind starts spiralling mid-reading Why a "no" from a sitter doesn't have to throw you off your link How community and active participation accelerate growth in ways solo study can't The tool Cathy now uses to settle herself when panic rises, in readings and in everyday life Why finding the right mentor and the right circle matters more than collecting more information Connect with Courtney Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mediumcourtneydawson/ Website: https://mediumcourtneydawson.com Mediumship Mastery Circle: waitlist open, circle starts September 2026 https://mediumcourtneydawson.my.canva.site/mediumshipmastery   The Connected Spirit Membership is open: lock in founding member pricing by July 10 https://www.skool.com/theconnectedspiritschoolmember/about   📌 Subscribe to The Connected Spirit Podcast so you never miss an episode that meets you exactly where you are on your spiritual journey. ethical mediumship, mediumship development, mediumship mentor, mediumship confidence, evidential mediumship, spirit communication, trust in Spirit, psychic medium, spiritual mentorship, structured mediumship, sacred service
