The whole vibe of this episode is similar to the song "We're not gonna take it!" Both Anita and Amy are survivors of both domestic violence growing up, and also psychological abuse in the workplace. They have both exited their traumatic environments but still feel the physical remnants of lifelong trauma. What are they doing about it? Standing up and saying no more. Superintendent Tiffany Gilmore is creating the world she wishes to live in. She disrupted her mainstream educational experience by creating her own school. Garvey Allen Academy is a school that prepares young people for real life, on a very transparent level in which the students have a voice too. They're allowed to ask why, and the approach transcends the copy/paste of the mainstream education system. Being part of the mainstream education system as a teacher and as an administrator, Tiffany Gilmore knew it wasn't it for her.
