According to the legend, she escaped her burning cabin only to freeze to death beside a large rock deep in the woods, leaving behind the impression of her hand and a curse upon those responsible. Late on 8 January 2004, a woman calling herself Hasumi began posting to the Japanese message board 2channel after her usual train travelled far beyond its normal route and stopped at a deserted station she had never heard of.
