Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials

Legend of the Guardians was a movie with maybe one of the longest titles of all time. I'm not even going to write it out in this description because it would make it too long; SEO be damned. Planned to watch this movie back when Sam Neil passed away, which now feels like forever ago. Regardless this movie is one of the first movies where Zach Snyder we feel wanted to show he had range. He wanted to say, "I don't just make movies about shirtless men who kick people into holes and super hero movies! I can make movies for kids too."Well he did. And the movie is honestly not that bad. It's maybe a little convoluted at times, but the message is clear: Being a Nazi is bad. The other message we learned from this movie is that having Owl City make a song for a movie about owls is way, way, way too on the nose.Don't forget to join our Discord for movie nights and additional podcast discussions!Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help support the show and get your room some cool art!Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

After finishing up the Maze Runner series, we can't get enough of Wes Ball. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes was his latest movie before he gears up to make the Legend of Zelda movie. What weirdly seems like the start of a new trilogy, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes takes place after all of the apes have already established colonies on earth.Caesar from the first three movies is long dead, but his legacy lives on. The movie wrestles with what it means to follow a leader and how iconic leader's messages and morals can become distorted over time.Wes Ball, he may be cooking over here.Don't forget to join our Discord for movie nights and additional podcast discussions!Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help support the show and get your room some cool art!Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

It's the end of this a'Mazin month with the boys watching The Huntsman Winter's War. A prequel/sequel to Snow White and The Huntsman, but without the snow white part (Kristen Stewart). Mazin apparently had a lot of fun writing a film filled with knock off fairy tale tropes, awful goblin designs and dwarf jokes about their women-folk's appearance. Chris Hemsworth and Jessica Chastain star in this movie where also Charlize Theron is supposed to appear at some point considering how large she looms in the poster. Will the boys find this magical land charming or a slog to get through?Don't forget to join our Discord for movie nights and additional podcast discussions!Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help support the show and get your room some cool art!Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

We're just cravin' more Mazin, with Senseless! This is one of his earliest movies and stars Marlon Wayans and David Spade. Marlon is struggling at college and takes and experimental drug to gain super senses! Unfortunately he takes too much and loses all of his senses! oh no the wacky hijinks!Look I know we hate doing comedy movies for the podcast, but we had to do it for Craig and honestly, we may be funnier than the movie.Don't forget to join our Discord for movie nights and additional podcast discussions!Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help support the show and get your room some cool art!Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Hungover from Canada month we try another dubiously themed month (we're addicted!!). The creator of Chernobyl and The Last of Us (the show not the game!), Craig Mazin, has a very interesting filmography and we thought it was the right time to examine it. Welcome to Dog days of Mazin! We kick off the month with a rough one y'all. The Hangover III. The biggest cash grab on a franchise that has no right to last as long as it did. But Mazin worked on both Hangover III and Hangover II, which are the lowest rated Hangover movies, must I remind you. I remember at least thinking the plot was interesting in the first hangover, but will this one also have a compelling plotline? Because we know the humor is going to age like milk.Don't forget to join our Discord for movie nights and additional podcast discussions!Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help support the show and get your room some cool art!Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

This week on The Other Half, we’re closing out our annual Canada Month series with our wonderful friend Madison to tackle 2013's Dallas Buyers Club. A movie that qualifies for our Canadian theme solely because its late, great director, Jean-Marc Vallée, came from Quebec!Join us as we break down a movie that starts with Matthew McConaughey watching bull riding during a rodeo hookup(?!), collapsing into a pile of nudie magazines, and reacting to a 30-day terminal AIDS diagnosis by immediately doing lines of coke and drinking whiskey in the dark. What a way to set up a character.Along the way, we dive deep into Jean-Marc Vallée’s naturalistic camera style and ear-ringing sound design, obsess over Griffin Dunne playing a hippie clinic doctor and compare the film's Hollywood narrative to real-life Wikipedia history. Pour yourself a drink, grab some of your favorite "vitamins", and let's find out more about the DBC.Don't forget to join our Discord for movie nights and additional podcast discussions!Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help support the show and get your room some cool art!Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
