Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is facing additional legal scrutiny after Police Scotland confirmed that investigators are examining allegations involving Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell's visits to Balmoral, the royal family's private estate in Scotland. The inquiry reportedly concerns claims that women connected to Epstein's trafficking operation may have been brought to the estate during visits involving the disgraced financier and the former prince. Photographs previously introduced during Maxwell's federal sex trafficking trial showed Epstein and Maxwell at Balmoral in 1999, while a former model separately claimed that she accompanied Epstein to the estate during the late 1990s and met Andrew. Investigators are also examining flight records documenting a September 2006 trip involving Andrew and Maxwell aboard Epstein's private aircraft. Police Scotland acknowledged receiving information and conducting active inquiries, although authorities have not established that trafficking occurred at Balmoral or announced criminal charges arising from the allegations. Nevertheless, the investigation raises serious questions about Epstein's access to royal properties and whether his relationships within the British establishment provided opportunities to facilitate his exploitation of vulnerable women.

The investigation adds another layer to Andrew's deteriorating legal position following his February 2026 arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office over allegations that he improperly shared sensitive government information with Epstein while serving as a British trade envoy. Andrew has denied wrongdoing and was released under investigation, but authorities continue examining aspects of his relationship with Epstein. British police forces have also reviewed allegations involving women allegedly trafficked to other royal residences, including Royal Lodge, where Andrew lived for years. The National Police Chiefs' Council has established a coordination effort to assist police forces examining evidence emerging from the Epstein files, reflecting the expanding scope of the inquiries. For Andrew, the Balmoral allegations represent another potentially damaging development following the loss of his royal titles, official responsibilities, and residence. More broadly, the inquiry raises uncomfortable questions about how Epstein and Maxwell obtained access to the royal family's private properties and whether their proximity to powerful individuals helped shield their activities from meaningful scrutiny. While the allegations remain under investigation, they have intensified questions about Andrew's relationship with Epstein and the extent to which royal institutions may have overlooked warning signs surrounding the financier's activities.
