Moving in Mental Space

Based on the book Journey to Ixtlan: The Lessons of Don Juan by Carlos Castaneda

Lucid Dreaming - Gateway to the inner Self by Robert Waggoner.

In the realm of lucid dreaming, where explorers tread the mysterious paths of the mind, a tapestry of extraordinary phenomena unfolds.

Among these, the dance with out-of-body experiences (OBEs) is a well-known waltz. A survey of these dream pioneers reveals a fascinating connection between lucid dreaming and the ethereal realm of OBEs.

For Robber Waggoner, the term "out-of-body" feels inadequate, a misrepresentation of the experience. He insists that during his OBEs, his awareness didn't abandon his body; rather, it embraced a different, non-physical form. Hence, he proposes a more fitting label – the 'projection of consciousness.'

A tantalising question arises like a whisper in the night breeze: Does awareness tether itself exclusively to a physical vessel, or does it, like a wandering spirit, explore realms both within and beyond the confines of the body?

For many dreamers, the journey begins with the art of lucid dreaming before stumbling upon the less frequent, spontaneous waltz of OBEs. Is this a mere coincidence, or does it signify a deeper connection between the two experiences? Could it be that one's passion for delving into the mysteries of awareness serves as the bridge between these realms?

It can be suggested that local OBEs are a 'reality plus one' phenomenon. These experiences beautifully mimic the waking world, yet bear the additional layers of subconscious desires and intentions woven seamlessly into the dream tapestry. It's as if reality itself gains an extra dimension, a touch of the fantastical fuelled by the whispers of the dreaming mind.
