In this episode, I spoke with Viridiana Zendejas, LCSW about the eldest daughter role within a Latine family, where we discussed common character traits carried by daughters, and what unseen grief is like. Viridiana and I discussed how the current administration and ICE raids specifically impact eldest daughters. Drawing from her experience, we explored strategies to support eldest daughters including inner child work. In this segment, our guest Sandra Barros shares with us her family life to decode immigrant parenting choices and how generational messages of identity are internalized. We explored "Spanish only" homes discussing how assimilation, discrimination, and collective trauma influence the choices of parents. Johanny Reyes and I spoke about the reversal of roles, from being cared for to becoming the caregiver often influenced by unspoken rules and misconceptions in Latinx immigrant families. The foundation is currently organizing support groups for families who have had a loved one deported under the current administration.** Today in this episode, I talked with Dr. Yessica Green Rosas about the importance of support groups and rapid responders in our current political climate. We explored how research data collected from pre- and post-tests can be used to advocate for funding, policy change, or expand mental health support for rapid responders.
