This week, Megan's speaking to singer-songwriter, Rachel Chinouriri. After recording some songs on a budget mic and her mum’s laptop aged 17, Rachel released her first ep ‘bedroom tales’ on Soundcloud. Since then she’s signed a record deal with Parlophone, had her music shared by her personal idols Coldplay, and most recently bagged a Hottest Record on Clara Amfo’s show on R1 with her latest single, ‘All I ever asked'. Rachel’s sound is delicate, soothing and layered. Her lyrics touch on relationship struggles and personal darkness, but her vocals feel bright and sincere. Focussed on language, Sinead uses melody to add power to her words, making listening experiential. She’s also responsible for the launch of Future1000 in collab with Virtuoso, an amazing initiative designed to help more young women, non-binary and trans artists learn how to DJ. Born in Switzerland to Tamil parents, Priya grew up singing and playing traditional music with her family, but was deterred from pursuing music full time. After years of pursuing her passion around work, Priya decided it was time to take a chance on herself and teamed up with her brother, a producer under the name of Japhna Gold. Together they created her debut mixtape, damnshestamil which came out last year.
