'Profs do the Movies'

Our favorite actresses from Hollywood's Golden Era who never won an Academy Award for their work. Shar and Bill each pick their top three. The episode includes clips from our favorite films featuring these wonderful performers. 

Two retired professors, Ron Cassell and Keith Cushman team up for their 17th year hosting a classic film program, 'Prof do the Movies' at UNC-Greensboro. They talk about how their love of films began and talk about their college class. This podcast also includes a spirited discussion of Fred Astaire's singing ability.    

Looking for a Christmas movie?  Here are three classics from the 1940s you may not know... "Holiday Inn"... "It Happened on 5th Avenue" and "Christmas in Connecticut." We also talk with John Swaine, head of the Civil Rights Center and Museum in Greensboro, NC about Blackface used in the film "Holiday Inn." Our daughter-in-law, Kate, talks about her favorite Christmas films and we share our TOP 10 list.      

Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers struck gold during the depression with a string of screwball romantic comedies.  We share three of our favorite films, 'Gay Divorcee', 'Top Hat', and 'Swingtime.' We interview film historian Jeanine Basinger, author of 'The Movie Musical.'  We also hear singer Tony DeSare sing a few bars of a famous Fred Astaire song.
