All this talk about the 25 year deferment of a $5.9M payment before the 2000 Major League Baseball season! The New York Mets wound up doing well from this deal. They were able to obtain Mike Hampton from the Houston Astros and eventually awarded a compensatory draft pick, which turned out to be David Wright. Furthermore, after David Wright retired, he became a special advisor to Brodie Van Wagenen and helped orchestrate getting Cy Young award winner Jacob deGrom's contract extension worked out. deGrom would follow up his amazing 2018 season with another Cy Young award in 2019.

Things may have worked out after all!
