James Joyce was one of the most significant writers of the 20th century, even though he was criticised during his career.

He was born in Dublin in 1882 into a poor family, he received a Catholic education. The events of these years were re-evoked in his autobiographical novel 'Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man'.

    In 1921 Joyce completed his most important work 'Ulysses', which was published by Sylvia Beach in 1922. "Ulysses" is considered a psychoanalytic novel. He finally died in Zurich in 1941.
