Christina Applegate & MS Misdiagnosis: A Conversation with Brigid Bandomer
Actress Christina Applegate recently shared that, after five years of living with an MS diagnosis, her doctor told her she does not have multiple sclerosis. But her symptoms haven’t disappeared, and now she’s searching for answers.
Her story has brought attention to a question many patients know intimately: What happens when the diagnosis you’ve lived with no longer explains what’s happening in your body?
Meredith and Amy speak with holistic nurse and health coach Brigid Bandomer, who spent years living with an MS diagnosis and severe symptoms before finding an integrative approach to her care. Brigid shares her experience, the questions she still has about her diagnosis, and how her health and understanding of what was possible began to change.
For years, Brigid experienced weakness, falls, speech difficulties, migraines, and periods when she spent months in bed. She received care at an MS specialty center, but when her symptoms became more complicated and her treatment options changed, a friend encouraged her to visit an integrative physician.
Brigid arrived skeptical. As a conventionally trained nurse, she was unfamiliar with the approach she encountered. She describes her gradual improvement, the emotional difficulty of feeling better and then experiencing setbacks, and the work that helped her return to nursing after 20 years of disability.
Together, they discuss the relief a diagnosis can bring, how a label can become part of someone’s identity, and the uncertainty patients face when answers change. Brigid also shares how she supports clients today, starting with small changes that fit into their lives.
