1175. The Triumph of Mercy | Paul Tripp's Wednesday's Word

Miracles point beyond themselves to the God who meets broken and needy people with compassion, mercy, and power. Today, we continue our year-long Bible study in the book of Acts. In this episode, Paul examines Peter’s healing of the lame man in Acts 3, showing how the miracle reveals our deeper spiritual brokenness and ultimately points us to the greater miracle of forgiveness through the gospel. To hear more studies from the book of Acts, visit PaulTripp.com/Acts.

Welcome to the final session of Paul’s special teaching series, Mercy Triumphs Over Judgment, recorded as part of the 20th anniversary celebration of Paul Tripp Ministries.Paul has spent the first three sessions unpacking the breathtaking gospel truth contained in James 2:13: “Mercy triumphs over judgment.”Now, he comes to the final and perhaps most sobering word—“judgment.” What does the Bible mean by judgment, why does it matter, and how does understanding the reality of judgment help us grasp the magnitude of God’s mercy and the hope we have through Jesus Christ?

Welcome back to the third session of Paul’s special teaching series, Mercy Triumphs Over Judgment, recorded for the 20th anniversary of Paul Tripp Ministries. So far, Paul has explored the first two words of James 2:13—“mercy” and “triumphs.” Now he turns his attention to the deceptively simple word “over,” examining what it means for God’s mercy to stand above, overcome, and ultimately have the final word over judgment.

Welcome back to the second session of Paul’s special teaching series, Mercy Triumphs Over Judgment, recorded for the 20th anniversary of Paul Tripp Ministries. In the first session, Paul unpacked the biblical meaning of mercy and why God’s mercy is such good news for sinners like us. Now, he turns to the second word in James 2:13: “triumphs.”What does it mean for mercy to triumph, and what does that victory reveal about the character of God, the power of the gospel, and the hope we have in Christ?

In this special episode of The Paul Tripp Podcast, we’re premiering the first of four sessions from a brand-new teaching series by Paul called Mercy Triumphs Over Judgment, recorded as part of the 20th anniversary celebration of Paul Tripp Ministries.Throughout 2026, PTM has been celebrating two decades of God’s faithfulness in enabling us to connect the transforming power of Jesus Christ to everyday life, right here, right now. To mark this milestone, Paul wanted to develop a new teaching series centered on James 2:13—and specifically, the final four words of the verse: “Mercy triumphs over judgment.”Across these four sessions, Paul takes a deep dive into each of those four words, exploring the profound gospel truths they contain and what they mean for our everyday lives.
