Many people claim to have "no creed but Christ," yet when you ask them what they believe, you discover nothing but cliches like "let go and let God." Kevin Swanson talks with Jack Lee from the Chorus in the Chaos podcast about the triteness of modern Christianity, and why people are so eager to trivialize the doctrines of Scripture. They look at the big cliches, and ask if the apostles ever said anything like that: - "Christianity is a relationship, not a religion" – why this ironically distorts people's relationship with God so badly that it leads them to hell - "Just because it's in a garage doesn't make it a car, and just because you're in a church doesn't make you a Christian" – but is it possible to be a Christian WITHOUT being in a church? - "Ask Jesus into your heart" – does Jesus want to live in our ugly, wicked hearts, and did the apostles ever preach this way? - "God has a wonderful plan for your life" – really, what is it? - "Once saved, always saved" – how does that square with salvation as a resurrection to a new creation, if you're still living in sin? Understanding the gospel is simple. But reducing the complexities of the Bible to coffee-cup phrases is really dangerous. Got a topic you want us to cover?
