The Promise in the Pit

Genesis 39 with Christian Dawson Scripture is full of promises that God will heal the world, but the headlines we read each day feel nothing like that. In Genesis 39, Joseph, the son who seemed to carry God’s promise ends up in a pit. He lives a story that raises the question: is God’s promise of flourishing for the world still alive? bridgetown.church/teaching

Genesis 38v1-30 with Tyler Staton Through the story of Judah and Tamar, we see how God works for redemption in the moments when we feel most forgotten. A story marked by deception, injustice, and shame ultimately points us to Jesus, who holds together justice and mercy, brings healing to our brokenness, and redeems our stories without dismissing our pain or excusing our wrongs. bridgetown.church/teaching

Genesis 37 with Bethany Sumbela The patterns we learn in our families can shape how we respond to pain and relate to others, but we don’t have to keep repeating them. Through Joseph’s story, explore how to change the patterns we can, forgive what we can’t control, and trust God as we move through each season of life. bridgetown.church/teaching

Matthew 11v28-30 with Tyler Staton and Gavin Bennett What if the path to rest isn’t escaping your life, but learning how to fully inhabit it? John 15v9-14 with Tyler Staton What stories are shaping you, what habits are forming you, and who are the people shaping who you’re becoming? Following Jesus means allowing the stories we believe, the habits we form, and the relationships we keep to reshape us into people who look more like him. Bridgetown.church/teaching

John 5v1-9 with Tyler Staton Jesus asks the man at Bethesda, “Do you want to get well?” and then tells him to get up, pick up his mat, and walk. Wholeness is a gift of God’s grace, but it also calls for our participation - choosing to get up, take a step, and follow Jesus into a new way of life.   Bridgetown.church/teaching

Genesis 34 with Todd Liles What happens when we try to build the life we long for without listening to God’s voice? In a difficult story of violence, revenge, and brokenness, we are reminded that our attempts to create the garden on our own terms only leave us carrying heavier burdens. Jesus offers another way, inviting us to come to him and find rest   Bridgetown.church/teaching

Genesis 32v22-32 with Tyler Staton What does it mean to wrestle with God well? Jacob’s struggle reveals that bringing our deepest fears, desires, and resistance to God can lead us somewhere we could never reach through control alone: toward surrender, healing, and the courage to reconcile with what has been broken.   Bridgetown.church/teaching

Genesis 31v17-32v1 with Nijay Gupta What happens when God’s promises seem to take a completely different path than the one we expected? Through Jacob’s long detour in Genesis, we are reminded that God is present even in the waiting, the disappointment, and the places where we cannot see what he is doing.   Bridgetown.church/teaching
