No second-guessing your earlier decision. 5 seconds is just about your window before your mind realizes what you're going to do and gets activated into convincing you not to do whatever it is you decided to do. "When you start counting backward, you interrupt the habit of overthinking, you assert control, you focus yourself on taking new action, and you activate a different part of your brain.
