Lori Vallow Daybell has been convicted in three separate trials across two states and has never once acknowledged that anyone was harmed. At her Idaho sentencing in 2023, she told the court that Jesus Christ knows no one was murdered. On Dateline in 2025, she told Keith Morrison she’d be exonerated and offered to go on Dancing With the Stars. In two Arizona trials where she represented herself, she smiled at jurors and told them to protect her from the state. Two more convictions. Two more life sentences.On November 2, the Idaho Supreme Court hears oral arguments on her appeal. Her attorney Craig Durham has one claim with real teeth: the judge removed her hired lawyer Mark Means in December 2021 over a conflict with co-defendant Chad Daybell. If that removal was unconstitutional, the conviction falls automatically. The state says Chad called Means “my attorney” on a recorded jail call, paid for the representation, and shared privileged information. Lori was incompetent and couldn’t waive the conflict.Even a complete reversal sends her back to trial, where two Arizona convictions now make the state’s evidence stronger. The door she’s trying to open leads to a smaller room. She dies in custody either way. But she told Morrison that Jesus visits her cell and showed her the future. The search for evidence of a suspected intruder moved outside the Flynn home as jurors heard from a police K9 handler and an FBI agent. One searched for a scent trail. The other searched the neighborhood for someone who had seen or recorded a possible burglar.David Laycox, a deputy and K9 handler with the Preble County Sheriff’s Department, testified about working the scene with K9 Hayes, a police dog trained to track human scent.Laycox said Hayes picked up a strong scent along the side of the garage. According to his testimony, the dog repeatedly tried to enter the garage because the scent appeared stronger there.Hayes then performed a perimeter search around the property. Laycox testified that the dog did not detect a scent trail indicating someone had moved away from the scene. Hayes returned to the area of the stronger scent and again attempted to enter the home.Laycox described that as a negative alert for a suspect leaving the scene.Cross-examination added an important limitation. Laycox acknowledged that the K9 search did not eliminate the possibility that someone had left the house. A tracking dog failing to locate an outgoing trail is not the same thing as proving no one left.FBI Agent Michael Tom testified about another search for that possible person. Tom, stationed in Dayton, said he canvassed the area, questioned neighbors and others nearby, and looked for doorbell-camera footage that might identify a suspected burglar.Tom testified that nothing was reported from that canvass.Those two searches matter because Caleb Flynn’s defense maintains that Ashley Flynn was killed during a home invasion. Prosecutors allege Caleb killed Ashley and staged the Tipp City home to resemble a burglary. Caleb has pleaded not guilty to all charges.The state now has testimony about what investigators did and did not find outside the house. Two Day 1 witnesses gave jurors very different snapshots of the Flynn home: one from inside the bedroom minutes after police arrived, and another from above the property more than an hour later.Alex Huels, a Tipp City firefighter and paramedic, testified about entering the bedroom where Ashley Flynn was found on February 16, 2026. Huels said Ashley was lying on her left side in the bed with a towel covering her head.He testified that he removed the towel and observed a penetrating wound to Ashley’s head. Huels said she was not moving and had no pulse when he checked her. His assessment ended at approximately 2:42 a.m.The prosecution then called Tipp City Police Officer Hunter Bradburn, who also serves as a drone pilot.Bradburn testified that he used a police drone to photograph the Flynn home. On cross-examination, he said the drone was deployed at approximately 3:56 a.m. Bradburn described that as more than an hour and a half after the incident.He testified that the only moving heat signatures he observed during the drone deployment were animals.That timing matters. The drone footage shows what Bradburn says was present when the aircraft went up at 3:56 a.m.; it does not tell jurors what may or may not have been around the home during the earlier events.Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty to 11 charges, including aggravated murder, in the death of his wife, Ashley Flynn. Officer Alexandra Giampapa’s testimony gave jurors another look at the first police response inside the Flynn home — including an open garage door leading outside and body-camera footage showing officers clearing the property.Giampapa, an officer with the Tipp City Police Department, testified that she and another officer cleared the garage during the response at the home where Ashley Flynn was found dead on February 16, 2026. While doing so, Giampapa said they discovered a door in the garage that was open to the outside.She then continued checking and clearing other areas of the house. Giampapa also testified that she checked on the minor children who were inside the home as officers worked through the scene.EMS personnel arrived during that response. Ashley’s mother, Jill, then took the children from the home.Prosecutors played Giampapa’s body-camera footage for the jury, allowing jurors to see portions of the police response rather than relying only on testimony about what officers encountered.That footage enters a case where the condition of the Flynn home is central to two competing accounts.Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty to 11 charges, including aggravated murder, in the death of his wife, Ashley Flynn. Five minutes separated Caleb Flynn’s 911 call from the arrival of the first Tipp City police officer at the home where Ashley Flynn was found dead. Day 1 testimony established that early timeline — and revealed that the officer’s first conversation with Caleb was not captured on body camera.After jurors reviewed the scene, prosecutors called Beth Hull, director of the Miami County Communication Center, as their first witness. Hull testified that she retrieved the records and audio connected to the February 16, 2026 emergency call. According to Hull, the call came in at approximately 2:31 a.m. Prosecutors then played Caleb Flynn’s 911 call requesting help for the jury.Sgt. Corey Rismiller of the Tipp City Police Department testified that he arrived at approximately 2:36 a.m. He said he searched the home for anyone else and found no other people inside. Rismiller testified that he then entered the bedroom, where Ashley Flynn had significant trauma around her head and was deceased.Rismiller said he secured the scene, notified detectives of Ashley’s death, and allowed EMS personnel to enter. He also testified that he never treated Caleb Flynn as a suspect during those initial moments.Cross-examination focused heavily on what happened before Rismiller’s body camera began recording. He testified that the camera did not activate automatically and that he manually turned it on after realizing it was off. That means his first conversation with Caleb was not recorded.Rismiller also acknowledged that he had previously worked one homicide in Tipp City, back in the early 2000s.Caleb has pleaded not guilty.
