The Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Commission has revoked the police certification of William Farwell, a former Stoughton officer, following his involvement in the Sandra Birchmore case. William is the twin brother of Matthew Farwell, who has been charged with Birchmore's murder. William agreed to voluntarily give up his certification as a law enforcement officer in Massachusetts, according to POST commission documents. The decision comes after he was accused of misleading state police investigators regarding the nature of his relationship with Birchmore, who died at the age of 23. The POST also added William's name to the National Decertification Index (NDI), a national registry of officers who have had their credentials revoked. **Background on the Case** Sandra Birchmore first met the Farwell brothers through the Stoughton Police Department’s Explorers Program in 2011, where both William and Matthew served as guest instructors. Investigations revealed that Matthew Farwell groomed Birchmore from a young age, leading to a years-long sexual relationship. Authorities allege that Matthew killed Birchmore when she became pregnant with his child in 2021 and staged her death to appear as a suicide. "Matthew Farwell has been federally indicted for killing Sandra Birchmore, and prosecutors may pursue the death penalty," reported Boston 25 News. **William Farwell’s Involvement** William's inappropriate conduct extended beyond his brother's relationship with Birchmore. A 2022 internal investigation by Stoughton Police revealed that William, Matthew, and another officer, Robert C. Devine, had inappropriate relationships with Birchmore. As part of his agreement with the POST, William has been barred from ever working in law enforcement in Massachusetts again. The commission stated, "Revocation of certification ensures accountability for officers who engage in misconduct, protecting the integrity of law enforcement." Another woman has come forward with serious allegations against music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs, adding to his mounting legal troubles. In a lawsuit filed on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, Thalia Graves claims that Combs and his former bodyguard, Joseph Sherman, drugged, bound, and raped her in the summer of 2001. The alleged attack took place at the famed Bad Boy Records studio in New York. Graves, who was 25 at the time, had been dating a Bad Boy executive when the alleged assault occurred. She says that Combs used her relationship to lure her into a private meeting at his lounge, where she was given a drink, believed to be laced with drugs. According to the lawsuit, Graves briefly lost consciousness and awoke to find herself bound and restrained while the assault was taking place. In a press conference held alongside her attorney, Gloria Allred, Graves spoke about the lasting emotional toll of the alleged incident. “Some of the hardest parts of this pain are the shame and guilt I’ve experienced, which play a negative part in my daily ability to function,” Graves said, holding back tears. She also stated that she had been blamed and threatened since the attack, further isolating her and making her feel responsible for what happened. The lawsuit claims that Combs and Sherman not only raped Graves but also recorded the assault without her consent. Shockingly, the footage was later distributed as pornography. “I couldn’t believe that they would record such a gruesome crime and then proudly share it with others,” Graves said. Graves also alleges that both men threatened her in the aftermath, warning that she could lose custody of her son if she ever disclosed the assault. "They had enormous power and could easily follow through on their threats," the lawsuit states. A Northern Virginia man has been indicted on charges related to the deaths of his wife and another man, in what law enforcement describes as a complex murder conspiracy involving the family's au pair and a fake profile on a fetish website. Brendan Banfield, 39, faces four counts of aggravated murder and one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony for the February 2023 killings of his wife, Christine Ann Banfield, 37, and Joseph Nathan Ryan, 39. The indictments were announced this week by the Fairfax County Police Department in conjunction with the Fairfax Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. On the morning of February 24, 2023, both victims were found dead in the Banfield residence on Stable Brook Way in Herndon, a suburb of Washington, D.C. Initial reports left many questions unanswered, but authorities now claim to have unraveled the intricate plot behind the killings. "Now, 570 days later, we know the deaths of Joseph Ryan and Christine Banfield are both, in fact, murders," Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said, as reported by WUSA. The investigation took a significant turn in October 2023 with the arrest of Juliana Peres Magalhaes, [Meh-GALL-ez]  24, the family's live-in nanny responsible for the Banfields' preschool-age daughter. Magalhaes was the first to call 911 on the day of the incident, initially reporting that her "friend was hurt." Shortly thereafter, Banfield called 911, claiming he had shot an intruder who had stabbed his wife. However, inconsistencies in their stories raised suspicions. According to court documents, Magalhaes and Banfield alleged that they discovered Ryan in an upstairs bedroom with a critically injured Christine. Banfield admitted to shooting Ryan and directed Magalhaes to retrieve a second firearm, which she used to shoot Ryan again. Both initially denied any romantic involvement, but it was later confirmed that they were in a relationship. Prosecutors allege that Banfield and Magalhaes conspired to eliminate Christine to continue their relationship uninterrupted. Investigators uncovered messages on a fetish website between Ryan and someone posing as Christine, arranging a meeting at the Banfield home on the day of the murders. Authorities believe Ryan was lured there under false pretenses. "I suspected from the very beginning... that there was going to be a lot of twists and turns to this investigation," Chief Davis said. "It's my expectation that we will eventually be able to hold more than just one person accountable for this crime." Further evidence presented includes newly framed photos of Banfield and Magalhaes together, displayed in Banfield's bedroom after the murders, suggesting a deepening relationship between the two. Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano explained the multiple aggravated murder charges filed against Banfield. "When we took a look at what we intend to present at trial, we believe our presentation of evidence can possibly hit both of those different subsection elements," he said. "We wanted to cover all our bases and make sure the jury had every option that they could want when looking at the evidence." The charges against Banfield now place the complex case firmly in the hands of the judicial system.
