Fear isn't the enemy.

It's trying to protect you.

But what happens when the danger is no longer in front of you and your mind or body is still responding as if it is?

In Part 2 of HeatherAsh Amara's conversation with Don Miguel Ruiz Jr., they dive into his newest book, The Poisoned Arrow, and the personal experiences that transformed it from an intellectual exploration of fear into something much more intimate.

While writing the book, Miguel was navigating an extraordinarily difficult season with his autistic son, caregiver fatigue, a concussion, and eventually his own experience with PTSD. Those experiences changed the way he understood fear and what it means to heal.

Miguel shares a powerful distinction between real fear, irrational fear, and PTSD. Real fear lives in the body and responds to an immediate threat. Irrational fear begins when the mind projects its "what ifs" into the future and responds as though those imagined dangers are already happening. And trauma can leave the nervous system responding to a danger that has already passed.

The answer isn't to become fearless.

It's to learn how to recognize fear, respect what it's trying to do, and stop using it against ourselves.

This conversation explores what becomes possible when we stop judging ourselves for being afraid, give ourselves permission to heal, and slowly rebuild the trust that allows us to move forward.
