Three-Inning Save: Dodgers roster decisions heading into NLDS

The Oklahoma City Comets won the Pacific Coast League championship series and then won the Triple-A national championship game, capping off a productive season for Dodgers minor league affiliates. All four full-season affiliates made the postseason, and three levels saw Dodgers minor leaguers win league MVP – top prospect Josue De Paula in the Double-A Texas League, outfielder Charles Davalan in the High-A Midwest League, and first baseman Easton Shelton in the Class-A California League. In addition, Scott Hennessey in Triple-A, Eric Wedge in Double-A, and Jair Fernandez in Great Lakes all won manager of the year.  With De Paula making his major league debut in September and fellow top-100 prospect Mike Sirota reaching Triple-A in the final week-plus of the season, coupled with major-league-ready outfielders James Tibbs III and Zach Ehrhard already with Oklahoma City, the Dodgers have a lot of functional minor league depth they can tap into as needed in 2027. Dodgers had a rough road trip, getting swept by the Braves to lose the season tiebreaker to Atlanta, which could affect playoff seeding. And Shohei Ohtani’s return to pitching is on hold as he deals with knee and biceps issues. Offense was the culprit in dropping four of six games in Atlanta and Detroit, scoring just 11 runs in the first 5 games of the trip, ending a disappointing August that saw the Dodgers go just 13-14 while averaging under four runs per game.
