In this episode, host Keith Woodward talks with TJ Friedman, Zach Metsa, Rand Pecknold, and Aaron Brown, a risk management expert and hockey fan who co-authored a paper called Pulling the Goalie: Hockey and Investment Implications. He’s probably the closest thing to an expert on pulling the goalie that exists on the planet. His 12-page research document has a lot of facts, figures and math symbols, and we thought it would be a lot easier to talk to him. In this episode, host Keith Woodward talks with three-time All-American Captain Zach Mesta, first year student-athlete and NHL seventh -round draft pick Sam Lipkin, Collin Graf who had an All-American season after transferring to Quinnipiac, and Jacob Quillan, who scored the game-winning goal in over-time on April 8, 2023. They talk about their origin stories in hockey, and how one of them wanted to attend college further down Whitney Avenue (Yale) but was never offered a spot. And then we start going through the season, starting with Zach being named captain and earning the respect and trust of his teammates. In this episode, host Keith Woodward talks with Rand Pecknold. You heard in Episode 1 how Rand was named coach in 1994, and how the program grew under his leadership. You will now hear about the beginnings, as we learn about the pivot points in the evolution of the program. The conversation begins with Rand as a young player in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, influenced by his dad, who also played the game. The conversation then migrates to the first couple of practices in 1994, and you must listen to the story about one of the players. Rand, as the 2023-24 season begins, he has a record of 615-337-103 and currently ranks first among all active NCAA Division I coaches in career victories and ninth all-time, which is impressive, because he started 1-12-1. Keith talks with Mike Corbett, the assistant hockey coach and somewhat of a hockey lifer, who has experienced more than his share of dynamic hockey life.
