I sit down with Daniele Bolleli to discuss the human propensity toward darkness and chaos but to instead shine a light on all that is beautiful and heroic within us, despite the cards stacked against us. We explore the difference between “true evil” versus mere frustration and fear built up and then projected outward, and whether or not “evil” people actually know they are evil or if perhaps they think their evil deeds are rather virtuous. We then dive into how a lapse in stress management and overwhelm may cloud our character permanently should we choose not to learn from our mistakes. And then move onto the very important distinction between self-examination, self-condemnation, and refusal to acknowledge our errors at all.  Daniele Bolelli is an Italian writer, university professor, martial artist, and podcaster based in Southern California. He is the author of several books on philosophy, and martial arts, including On the Warrior's Path.[2] Known for his writing since the 1990s in Italy and the early 2000s in the United States, Bolelli rose to greater public prominence in the 2010s, beginning with his appearances on popular podcasts such as The Joe Rogan Experience. He went on to create his own podcasts, and has hosted The Drunken Taoist since 2012 and History on Fire since 2015. Bolelli holds M.As in American Indian Studies and history from UCLA and California State University, Long Beach, and did postdoctoral research in history at Cardiff University.[3] As a professor, he has taught a wide variety of courses in the arts, humanities, and social sciences on topics including Native American history and culture, Taoist philosophy, and Ancient Rome. He is the host of “The Barbaric Wisdom” podcast as well as the founder of Moss and Blood, an apparel company for athletes and outdoorsmen.  In this episode, we dive into a story, an act of heroism, that would forever change Bronson Lee Norton’s life. After saving a woman from a violent sexual assault, March 26, 2015, Bronson fell into a darkness, that he once believed, he would never return from. He walks us through his experience on that fateful day but then takes us on a journey to the now. From a once hell, to a deeply enriched and full life now, filled with spiritual and emotional healing, and most of all gratitude, that has come as a result of this VERY experience. We explore his journey with first nations medicine, the tools he uses to navigate the difficulties of life and himself, as well as his advice to others who may currently be at their rock bottom. His message and his story are incredibly powerful, so I highly recommend listening through to the end.
