The Seattle Seahawks have earned their bye week as the NFC's top seed, and the dominance couldn't be sweeter. Mike McDonald's squad dismantled the 49ers in a performance that left no question about who was the top team in the NFC. T Jaxon Smith-Njigba capped off a historic season with 1,793 receiving yards—outpacing the entire New York Jets receiving corps—while the offensive evolution under Klint Kubiak has transformed Seattle from an explosive passing attack into a balanced team that others will fear in the playoffs. Charles Cross locked in a four-year, $104 million extension that looks like a very team friendly deal. The value only gets better when considering the contract takes him through age 30, giving Seattle bookend tackles with Abraham Lucas secured for the foreseeable future. Kubiak may have a future as a head coaching candidate. The Ravens job seems like a legitimate landing spot if he leaves, though there's zero interest in discussing coordinator departures while chasing a Lombardi. The wild card weekend brings a cursed Rams team to Carolina, where Dave Canales goes full circle back to when Seattle faced the Saints. With a home playoff game on the horizon, the Seahawks have announced major contract extension for offensive lineman Charles Cross. Sunday's reports have it announced as a four-year extension, and this appears to be in addition to the 2026 season Seattle had tagged him for a fifth-year option. We also talk about what the Seahawks may want to do at running back in the offseason. Following Sunday's slate of games, the playoff positions are all set. Join us as we celebrate the Seahawks defensive dominance on their way to victory and clinching of the NFC West title. But CMC and Purdy were shut down entirely thanks to relentless pressure from the Seahawks front. Before we look ahead to the Seahawks Saturday night battle against the San Francisco 49ers, let's look back at the micro-moments in the Panthers game that kept Seattle in the pole position in the NFC. To kick things off, Ty Okada and and Drake Thomas were key in providing some sound tackling and effective run support. Additionally, we dial in on how Nick Emmanwori and Julian Love helped contain the outside runs when the Panthers tried to change things up. On offense, the focus goes to the play of the offense following the Julian Love interception - it was a physical, clock-controlling dirve that set up their late touchdown. But in traditional 3 IN, 3 OUT style, it wasn't all sunshine and roses. There were some badly whiffed blocks up front, Ken Walker tried a bit too much to bounce to the outside, and Sam Darnold did not choose wisely on his only interception/non-interception on the day. The Seahawks defense put on a clinic against the Panthers, suffocating Carolina's offense and consistently pressuring Bryce Young. The defense limited Young to less than 60 yards through the air and Julian Love picked off Young once. Rico Dowdle actually had more yards on the ground by himself than the entire passing offense. Zach Charbonnet's 122 yards nearly eclipsed the Panthers 139 total yards and his two touchdowns would have been all the offense they needed. Ultimately, the Seahawks 27-10 victory keeps them on pace to win the NFC West and take the top seed heading into the playoffs. There is one unlikely scenario that could lock up the top spot by Tuesday, but a Niners loss to the Bears could make next week's matchup relatively meaningless for San Fran.
