If you’ve been with me a while, you’ve heard a theme that the stories of our past impact our current relationships and reactions.

Today my guest Angie Baughman shares her story of being groomed into a relationship with a high school teacher at age 16, and how God has (and continues to) healed her heart.

We talk some about anxiety (and I love her wisdom on this), her story of abuse and the public backlash that came with it, and how learning to identify and deal with triggers has helped her parenting and other relationships.

We discuss:

  • How anxiety shows up differently for different people
  • The sneaky ways a predator can cause even more damage
  • Dealing with public shame at age 16
  • How triggers can be on a continuum
  • The 5 R’s that can help us talk to our triggers

Angie is a pastor, Bible teacher, author, podcaster, founder of Steady On ministries, and creator of the Step By Step Bible study method.  At sixteen, she was groomed into a romantic relationship with a high school teacher and faced community rejection when she went public with her story. Knowing and living by the promises of God helped free her from layers of shame, and she now creates resources that help people cultivate consistent Bible study habits.
