On the morning of Friday, 15 December 2017, police in Toronto were contacted by multiple people at a residence in North York. The calls came in just before noon, and were from the housekeeper who cleaned the home every Friday, a real estate agent that was selling the property, and a contractor who took care of the plants. They were sure that they had discovered the bodies of the homeowners, 75-year-old Barry Sherman and his 70-year-old wife Honey, in the basement near the indoor pool.

As investigators would soon learn, the Shermans were exorbitantly wealthy and had rubbed shoulders with some of the most influential and powerful Canadians for decades. But investigators were unable to determine whether they had been killed by someone else, or by someone much closer to home...
