My guest for this episode of The Courage, Coaching and Couneling Podcast is Dr. Mark M. McNear. Mark is a Licensed Psychotherapist who has over thirty years of experience in clinical work through his private practice in New Jersey. He is a graduate of Northeastern Bible College, New York University, and Oxford Graduate School. Dr. McNear specializes in helping people who have experienced trauma in their life, as well as the maladaptive behaviors that spring forth from their woundedness. Yet, Dr. McNear doesn’t approach his clientele purely from a clinical perspective but as someone who also has experienced severe trauma in his life and the healing power found in Christ. In his recent memoir, Finding My Words: A Ruthless Commitment to Healing Gently after Trauma, Dr. McNear reveals he suffered a traumatic and abusive childhood. He suffered sexual abuse and physical abuse starting at the age of four and was repeatedly told he was stupid, a fool, and trash. Dr. McNear hid these abuses deep in his heart for many years – until they caught up with him. Today, Dr. McNear seeks to help others find the freedom and healing in Christ that he himself received once he faced his own traumatic past. Six months since the last episode! I&#39;m still alive! Been a busy year with family and BJJ. I&#39;ve been training and coaching more Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since earning my black belt in Jan after 23 years. I also started the Sovann Pen BJJ YouTube channel and The Uncle Wristlock Podcast. And we added two grandkids in the last eight months. This podcast is to encourage you and your family at the start of the school year. This year my wife Julie is teaching high school and jr high science again. And my daughter is starting another year of college in Seattle. Payton Lothman is my guest for episode 76. She is going on an 11 month adventure this year. Here&#39;s her bio: &quot;Hello! I am a woman with a heart after God, His people &amp; the radical life of sharing His love story with the world. I was raised in Central California &amp; currently reside in my hometown, Portland, Oregon. Though I miss the beach &amp; warm weather, the captivating beauty of the Oregon Coast &amp; easy accessible trails &amp; waterfalls have stolen my heart. You can find me eating fruit, drinking an iced honey latte or at the gym most of the time! I love love love laughing with friends, hanging out with my middle school youth kids &amp; being around youth in general. Living in a single parent household for most of my life &amp; growing up with lots of siblings from all different parents has taught me the value &amp; importance of family as well as adopting others into our families. I was born into a Christian church-going family that started to drift from God very quickly &amp; it wasn’t until I was 12 years old, at a church summer camp, that I chose to follow Jesus for the rest of my life! This led me to be baptized at 17 &amp; start chasing hard after God following my high school graduation. Aside from serving with middle schoolers in the youth group setting as well as YoungLife, missions has been a catalyst in my faith journey. My life has been full of saying “yes” when I want to say “no”, learning how to adapt &amp; find comfort in Jesus in places that are extremely uncomfortable &amp; breaking out of the shell of the fear of man &amp; stepping into courage, confidence &amp; boldness in the Lord alone.
