For the first six months of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, Palestinian journalist Mohammed Mhawish reported from the ground for +972 Magazine and other outlets. In April 2024, he and his family fled Gaza, but he continued documenting what was happening to his home from afar.
In this episode of The +972 podcast, exactly three years after the Hamas-led Oct 7 attack on southern Israel and the beginning of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, Mhawhish reflects on survival and exile, the burden carried by Palestinian journalists, and what it means to remember Gaza as a place of culture beyond the war and destruction.
