I Tried Everything Except Jesus

What if the thing you’ve been searching for isn’t another drink, another high, more success, or even a better version of yourself? This week, we’re talking about what happens when the things we use to escape, cope or prove ourselves stop delivering what we thought they would. After a night at The Whosoevers Boise Invasion grand opening with P.O.D., Head and Fieldy from Korn, Lacey Sturm of Flyleaf, Dave Buckner from Papa Roach and many other amazing people, one message stood out: “Religion is dead. This is about a relationship with God.” Maybe you’ve spent years searching too. Alcohol. Drugs. Money. Success. Approval. Relationships. Work. Constantly trying to become a better version of yourself. But what if you don’t just need to do better? What if you need to become new? In John 3:5–8, Jesus talks about being born again, born of the Spirit. And John 3:30 gives us another challenge: “He must become greater; I must become less.” Less ego. Less control. Less trying to prove ourselves. More of Him. This episode is about sobriety, surrender, relationship over religion, and finding the peace we may have been searching for in all the wrong places. You don’t need to have God figured out. Sonny Mayo has spent decades living the life most musicians only dream about.
