Can Cohen and Stearns Sell the Mets?

Mike Silva discusses why the Mets pursuit of Tarik Skubal is as much about selling fans on the team’s direction as it is about improving the roster. He explains why the rest of the offseason—whether they land Skubal or not—might not be as splashy as fans hope. Then, Mike wraps up by hearing what fans want to see from the Mets this winter. Mike Silva discusses how a small-market World Series makes the case that David Stearns has what it takes to bring the Mets to the next level. The complication? Baseball’s changing economics could force him to operate much as he did in Milwaukee—even with Steve Cohen’s deep pockets. With the specter of Cohen “stepping in” to sign Tarik Skubal, bringing roughly $180 million committed to payroll, could a future salary cap or spending apron change the Mets’ approach? Mike explains why those constraints could reveal that Stearns is exactly the right executive to navigate baseball’s next era. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
