What does it take to walk away from a 21 year Royal Marines career and bet everything on a business you know almost nothing about?

Stephen Howarth, co founder of Jöttnar, shares the story of failing his dream at 17, deliberately toughening himself up at sea, and eventually earning his place in the Royal Marines. Two decades later, he faced a completely different challenge: entrepreneurship.

With his co founder Tommy, Stephen entered the outdoor clothing industry with little commercial experience, despite knowing they realistically needed £3 million to build the business properly. Instead, they started with just £60,000 and went years without a salary.

From failure and resilience to founder pressure, risk, leadership and planning, this is a story about choosing the harder path and turning ambition into action.

“Build your roadmap. Make your map.”
