At a Students vs. Billionaires town hall in Ithaca, in front of more than 1,000 people, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called for abolishing ICE and framed the agency as a post-9/11 surveillance-state shop tied to private contractors, not ordinary law enforcement. She named Palantir. She brought up facial recognition. She said ICE is going after every man, woman, and child because detention company CEOs have profits to post at the end of the quarter. Then she aimed it at the crowd: coming after you, status or not. That is the Democrats' save-immigration push heading into the midterms. Not a fight about the border. A scare pitch that turns immigration enforcement into a dragnet aimed at citizens, so that the people who actually entered illegally drop out of the story. "Regardless of your status" is the tell. If the agency is coming after everyone, then enforcing the law stops being law enforcement and starts sounding like a conspiracy. Mamdani just sued the Trump administration over green cards and welfare — and he said people could die if the rule stands. A GOP senator leaned over and told Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) how to vote. The clerk still couldn’t hear him. This is day three back for an 84-year-old senator after more than 90 days away — a fall, pneumonia, two months in the hospital, and a wheelchair through the Capitol. The Senate Agriculture Committee had already stalled the farm bill without him. On Wednesday, they needed that vote. So they brought him in, called his name, and the country watched Sen. John Hoeven (R-N.D.) lean in with “no” while McConnell quietly said “aye,” then had to say it again louder because nobody caught it the first time. The bill cleared 12-11, party lines. The question is why Republicans keep pretending this is just a tough recovery and not a fitness problem. If a Democrat this frail needed a neighbor to coach a roll call, this network would not be told to look away. Farm policy, nutrition fights, and a chamber that already runs on people who should have gone home years ago — and the party of “common sense” wheels a man in because the math is 12-11. The Democratic Senate nominee in Texas had a name in under a second — and he smiled when he said it. The performer he picked, Alyssa Edwards, has described himself as a drag performer who works with children. That sits on top of Talarico’s own 2023 line that Texas produces some of the best drag queens in the nation. Ken Paxton, his Republican opponent, asked the question a lot of regular people asked after the clip hit: What normal person can name his favorite drag queen this quickly?
