The Vancouver Canucks are NEVER splitting these guys up

The Hughes drama keeps simmering... Jack Hughes of the New Jersey Devils recently told Pierre LeBrun and others that “eventually I’d love to play with him” (referring to Quinn). Whether it’s in New Jersey or elsewhere, Jack made it clear that reuniting with Quinn is something he really wants.

Quinn Hughes was asked about those comments too—his response was measured, focused, and resolute:

“He’s my brother. What’s he supposed to say?... Would it be fun to play with those guys at some point? Of course. We do have contracts… I’m excited to be in Vancouver, and I feel like last year was a little bit of failure. So I feel like I got things to do there.”

What It All Means + Why Staying in Vancouver is the Move

Continuity & Trust: Quinn is captain of the Canucks, a top defenseman, and deeply invested in the team. Stability at his position matters.

Chemistry with the lineup: He already has strong connections on the blue line—particularly with Filip Hronek, whose style complements Quinn’s mobility and offensive instincts. Pushing to break through will be much easier with a consistent, supportive core.

Fan base & identity: Quinn’s presence in Vancouver has become part of the team’s identity. Letting that go would be risky—both in performance and in goodwill.

Contract leverage & legacy: With two years left on his deal, Quinn has time to demand excellence and results. If the team delivers, he can extend feeling confident. If the team flounders, those “play with brothers” narratives just add noise.

Bottom Line: Jack’s comments stirred the pot—but Quinn’s message is clear: he’s here, he wants to win here, and Vancouver is where he has unfinished business. The best path for both Quinn and the Canucks is building on last season, refining their core, and showing the kind of performance that makes “leaving” the afterthought—not the headline.
