A young man who has just lost his father and needs to support his mother tries to find work but no one, inluding his own uncle, will hire him due to his deceased father's bad reputation as a shirker. Finally a local farmer offers the young man a job to clear an entire field of elderberries down to the roots for a pittance, provided he finishes the job. The young man has nowhere else to turn and accepts the offer.

 Two brothers who own a successful clock/watch shop in Paris are surprised when a disreputable looking man enters the shop- and they both believe has has come to case the shop before robbing it. They contact the police, and the police question the man, but come up with nothing. Things turn bad for the brothers soon after. In this story Merlin is no longer a force but he is able to make a request to Vivien to save King Arthur's life.  Arthur and a fellow knight become lost after a deer hunt and they are lured onto a sailing ship by Morgana La Fay's magic- and things go downhill from there.;
