Manga Pulse 567: Popular Balls

Did you know there’s a new Resident Evil movie out? And it’s directed by Zach Cregger who did the movie Weapons! So you know what that means. We’re doing two manga so that’s entirely unrelated. Unless maybe you count the fact we’re doing revisits which is kind of like rising from the grave. Yeah, so it’s like zombie manga. That’s the connection. We can make it all come around on a long enough timeline. Tim has Durarara. This time it’s the first two volumes. We have a large cast of colorful characters that’s very rushed in the first volume. The long and short of it is a there’s a Dullahan … Continue reading "Manga Pulse 569: Again?"

It’s officially Fall. It’s still pretty warm around us, hitting the high eighties and low nineties. But we’re seeing the leaves change and hoodies come out of storage. Which can only mean we need to be on the look out for the pumpkin spiced liquor of some kind. As is our tradition. Worst case we get pumpkin spice vodka and have fall shots. In the meanwhile, we have a pair of manga. First up is Tim with a mouthful of a title. It’s Not My Fault That I’m Not Popular! This is apparently a revisit from way back when. As a reminder we have our girl Kuroki, who we start … Continue reading "Manga Pulse 567: Popular Balls"

What if you were a cop but racist? That’s the bold thought experiment that Hollywood dared to ask with the movie Heart Condition(1990). But, stay with us here, what if he were a likable schlub who learned the error of his ways? So you cast Bob Hoskins as a cop who gets a heart transplant from Denzel Washington who now haunts Hoskins. Also they were both in love with the same prostitute who used to have a heroin problem. Nothing you haven’t seen before. Next up is Tim with The Runner[2026]. Gal Gadot was given the headline in another movie. This time she’s a woman lawyer in London and has … Continue reading "Popcorn Pulse 272: Eating Your A$$"

By now you’ve probably heard about Dolly Parton’s passing. She was very big on getting children into reading and reducing illiteracy. In that case we’re going to continue to promote literacy by reviewing manga. That may sound completely disconnected but we’ve go nothing in the tank this week. Take this intro for the place holder they usually are and we’ll move on to the manga summaries. Tim has Jinmen. Men made of gin sounds like a hilarious manga, especially if they’re English.
