Chad Young from Horror Movie BBQ and Alamo City Santa Jeremy Phelps join me to talk the 1986 horror film “Trick or Treat!” Mega heavy metal rocker Sammi Curr died in a fire. His local DJ friend Nuke gifts Sammi’s biggest fan, outcast Eddie “Ragman” Weinbauer, an unreleased final album. Of course, per Sammi’s will, Nuke will play it on Halloween night. As Eddie’s bullying increases, he decides to play Sammi’s album backwards and release his vengeful spirit.Consequently, Sammi begins to torture and maim Eddie’s bullies. Unfortunately, Eddie develops second thoughts about the entire venture, and tries to end his deal with the ghost. After thrilling chases and threats upon love interest Leslie’s life, Eddie vanquishes Sammi with water. Of course, Sammi first plays a killer show at the Halloween Dance and vaporizes a bunch of people. It is a horror after all.Ozzy Osbourne? Check. Gene Simmons? Got him. Skippy from Family Ties? Arnold and some Olympians discuss his singing, and  Barbara Mandrell recounts playing soccer, talking to a 50m freestyle swimming gold medalist. Next, DeVito and Arnold work out with some athletes. Randy Travis then tells us he thinks of food at Christmastide and sings "Winter Wonderland."Immediately following that, Susan Saint James tells us of Mark Arrowood kindness, and Mike Tyson talks basketball. What's up, dudes? I've got songwriter Chad Wonsik here to talk all about the 1985 horror comedy "Fright Night!" It's the ultimate '80s cheese, full of nonsensical shark-inspired vampire teeth and next-level bat special effects!Charley Brewster is a typical teenage horror-film junkie trying to be more intimate with his girlfriend Amy. When a mysterious new neighbor named Jerry Dandridge moves next-door, strange events occur and disappearances abound. Charlie becomes increasingly convinced Jerry is a vampire. Nobody believes him, of course. Jerry, however, realizes Charlie is on to him, and brutally confronts him. He even transforms his best friend Evil Ed into a vampire. After Amy is kidnapped, Charlie turns to the only person who he believes could help: washed-up television vampire killer Peter Vincent. The pair return to Dandridge's house, kill his ghoul(?)/golem(?) guardian Billy as well as Evil Ed, and blast Jerry to dust with sunlight. Oh yeah, Amy is restored to her human state.Has-been horror host? Check. Menacing antagonist? Yep. Companion melting into goo and sand? Uh...I gues... What’s up, dudes? DuckTales! Woo-oo! It’s the theme song stuck in our heads for 30+ years! Yes, it’s Uncle Scrooge and the gang. Joe Martinez from Now Watch This and I dive into the DuckTales episode “Ducky Horror Picture Show!”Scrooge has just succeeded in another business venture, showing monster movies in Duckburg’s newest theater. Consequently, he moves on to his next project, renovating a rundown convention center. Unbeknownst to him, a werewolf (wolfduck?) rents it out for his group of monsters, including Drakeula, Quackymodo, and Quackenstein. Scrooge has also unwittingly allowed them to stay in his mansion as a hotel.As the creatures arrive, their antics cause mayhem and destruction, and his convention center. Subsequently, shenanigans ensue at his mansion as well. Further, the arrival of giant ape Ping Pong (get it?) causes a commotion at his money bin. As it turns out, though, the monsters begin to protest Scrooge’s theater, thinking it gives them a bad name. Instead, the join forces with Scrooge to put on shows and make each other money.Monsters? Yep. Money making schemes? For sure. Duck puns? Indubitably! I’ve got Ken Kessler from Sounds of Christmas, Scott Leopold from Holly Jolly X'masu, and Vinnie Brezinsky from Huey and Bax here to talk Remote Control Christmas! Ken Ober hosted this season 3 episode.It’s the infamous Christmas episode, and the round begins with the magi competing. Of course, wise as they are, they aren’t too knowledgeable about classic sitcom television. Consequently, they get all the questions wrong except those about Laverne & Shirley. In round two, a set of real contestants—Joe, Keith, and Kimberly—compete for the prize. Colin Quinn sang twice, and Kari Wuhrer acted out a condensed version of A Christmas Carol.  Ultimately, Kimberly’s chair was flipped, leaving Joe against Keith.Eventually Joe triumphed in the Think Real Fast round, but ultimately floundered in the Grand Prize round. He only identified 5 of the 9 music videos.Melchior? Check. Balthazar? Got him. Shemp?! Finally, the Ghost of Christmas Future shows her a desolate wasteland, which changes her attitude about the holiday. Cue the horror hostess sic'ing a bat on some creeps. Ancient family spell book? Kevin Williams from ‘Tis the Soundtrack joins me to talk about Lazer Tag Academy “The Olanga Story!” Yes, it’s a Lazer Tag Halloween time travel adventure with Jamie Jaren and her ancestors!Draxon Drear has a diabolical plan to stop the birth of Professor Olanga, the Jarens’s greatest ally. He and his Skuggs find a map to an ancient city in 13th century Africa where Olanga’s ancestors lived. On Halloween, while trick-or-treating, Olanga informs the Jarens of Drear’s plan and teleports them to the desert.After meeting a street urchin, the Jarens are ambushed. They evade jackals and make their way to the city. Unfortunately, they’re caught by an evil twin of Olanga’s ancestor and thrown in a dungeon. Luckily they escape with the urchin’s help and track down the good twin. With some holographic trickery, the good twin reclaims the throne and the day is saved!Vampire costumes? What’s up, dudes? It’s a fun, light hearted episode today with special guests Anthony Caruso from ‘Tis the Podcast and CM Chuck from Just Another Friday Night! That’s right! We’re talking the General Mills monster cereals! Officially created in 1928, General Mills traces its history back to the 1860's. Introduced in March of 1971, Count Chocula is a chocolate loving vampire designed by George Karn. His cereal, as his name suggests, was made of delicious whole grain corn chocolate flavor frosted cereal and marshmallow bits. His Bela Lugosi-inspired voice was provided by Larry Kenney for the commercials. In the 1980's Count Chocula character was re-vamped (pun intended) with a more svelte physique, a slender nose, and added shading on his clothes. New boxes were introduced, even including a set where Lugosi’s Dracula chased a terrified Count Chocula.Franken Berry followed soon after in October of ‘71, also a Karn design. He is a slightly rotund pink version of Frankenstein’s creature with sweet strawberry cereal and marshmallows. Voiced by Bob McFadden, he was given a Boris Karloff-style voice.Boo Berry, the blueberry flavored cereal ghost mascot, was released in 1973. His Peter Lorre-tinged voice was provided by Christmas special voice acting legend Paul Frees. Boo Berry is a blue ghost with a red bow-tie and red and yellow hat.Rounding out the cast is Frute Brute, a werewolf introduced in ‘74 and retired in ‘82, and Fruity Yummy Mummy, released in ‘88 and retired in ‘92. Both are fruit flavored cereals. In ‘85 the cereal pieces became ghost shaped, and in ‘89 bat shaped marshmallows were introduced.Hanna-Barbera vibe? Check. Classic Universal Studios Monster pastiches? Uh huh. Loads and loads of sugar? Definitely! Superboy saves him and Lana, and take whim to his apartment.Subsequently, Byron tells Superboy he’s a half-vampire, and his father is looking for him. The older vampire was sent by his father to bring Byron home. He appears as most, and after biting Byron, tries to glamour Superboy into doing his bidding. Superboy instead flies him into space where the sun destroys him.Intense staring? Check. Melodramatic glamouring? Got it. Over the top vampire costuming? Definitely! Yes we’re digging into Christmas songs by The Cure!On December 9, 1987, The Cure came out for a fourth encore and blasted through a cover of “Merry Christmas Everybody” by Slade. It was the final song on the third night at Wembley, the final show of The Kissing Tour.Delving deeper, many of their songs allude to Christmas or romanticize Christmas as a state of happiness and content. For example, “Let’s Go to Bed,” Christmas is the metaphor for physical excitement and anticipation. Further, in “Other Voices,” a song about the sickness of lust, the protagonist asks his paramour to come around at Christmas for a festive compromise.Similarly, in “Hey, You,” Smith asks the one who looks like Christmas to come kiss him.  “The Snakepit” and “Last Dance” also reflect themes of nostalgia and melancholy and Christmas.Driving basslines?
