  The Parenting You Need Now More than lip service to correcting your mistakes ~ this is living the promise of change that fosters healing and unparalleled growth. 'ask dorothy' The WISDOM podcast  Season 5  Episode 81   How Do You Parent?  Do you parent the way you were parented or do you reach for something better?     The biggest takeaway from this episode is twofold: First who you are is how you will parent.   Second, if we say all of the 'right' things after an explosive reaction - with good intentions to repair and resolve - have we? If your behaviour as a parent never changes - it becomes a tired expression of 'I'm sorry' I did this bad thing and I'll do better. However, your actions need to support your words or the repair you intended is really you giving lip service to what you know you should be doing differently.   I want to address both of these areas - giving you the practical means for how to break a cycle in which you continue to do the same. Naming your inappropriate behaviour and apologizing is important. I'm so glad that we are hearing this message for parents from clinicians - however it is needing something more.   Naming your mistakes the beginning. You then need to show up being different again and again.   When you reach for real healing it is more than lip service because haling involves listening, feeling empathy and remorse and the clear understanding of how you hurt someone and what feels and looks like from their perspective.   Your child may be able to articulate all of their experience and feelings but you can ask them to try. How did my reaction, my words, my hurtful behaviour impact you? How did it make you feel? Self-Care Sustenance The WISDOM podcast  Season 5  Episode 80 It's about enjoying the possibilties that exist for you in the present ~ being a witness to yourself ~ and in full appreciation of this moment as it is ~ and as it gives light to what is next.   Let this Affirmation and Journalling Meditation be nourishment and self-care ~ and particularly as you want to better identify what you need now and in this moment.   Each prompt is an affirmation followed by a question designed to help you go deeper into self-care and self-nurturing practices. Begin with your breath. 'My breath is my life force.' ~ How is my breath nourishing me? 'I live in kindness and peace.' ~ What kindness can I speak unto myself? How can I live peaceful and calm? 'All of the most beautiful aspects of life find me in and of the present.' ~ What can I appreciate now? 'I am grateful for so much.' ~ How can my gratitude here and now be the inspiration for even more goodness and beauty and love? 'I am content in the presence of each new moment.' ~ What do I need that only I can give myself? (Let your answers surprise you.) 'My feelings invite positivity.' ~ What do I feel now? 'My life is sacred and special. I savor each moment here in the present.' ~ How does life here and in the present feel to me? 'I am accomplishing beautiful, creative, worldly endeavours, each one inspired by positive ideas and my belief that I can.' ~ What can I imagine that would be so amazing? 'I love and care for all of me, always and forever.' ~ What more can I savor here and now?   What affirmations will you create?  What questions can you ask of yourself that prompt greater self-awareness, self-care and self-love?
