Should Astrologers Give Medical Advice? The Ethics of Medical Astrology
Medical astrology belongs at the heart of every natal consultation—but with clear ethical guardrails. In this installment of our Medical Astrology 101 series, I outline the scope of practice for medical astrologers, why diagnosis lies outside our role, and how to hold rigorous ethical checkpoints before anything leaves our lips in a consult.
We’ll trace how astrology historically functioned alongside traditions like Ayurveda and Chinese medicine—systems that developed sophisticated ways of assessing constitution (from pulse and tongue to nails and eyes)—and how our work today can respectfully complement those modalities without overreach.
I also share why I still regard chart-based constitutional assessment as squarely within the medical astrologer’s wheelhouse, while pointing you to modern resources and historical precursors—Max Heindel and Augusta Foss Heindel—and my book, The New Western Medical Astrology, for a 21st-century framework.
