DAAN, full name Daan Stuyven, is an award-winning cult-pop shapeshifter, sonic architect and one of the most compelling figures to emerge from the Lowlands in recent memory. A singer, composer, performer and occasional escape artist, he’s carved a four-decade-long path through indie rock, electro-pop, chanson, orchestral cinema and lo-fi mischief.

On this episode, DAAN and Dominique Nzeyimana retrace his remarkable journey from school rebellion and childhood radio obsession to collaborating with other prolific producers and navigating the tension between artistic integrity, his love for pathos and commercial success.

Kindly indulging his host, the artist also offers up stories from his Dead Man Ray days and he gets into detail about the pivotal meeting with Rudy Trouvé that shaped his artistic foundation. He reflects candidly on the commercial failure of his very first album, the years of creative mourning that followed, and how parenthood fundamentally shifted his creative priorities.

DAAN also shares how he navigates the delicate balance between cynicism and romance and why artists have a responsibility to use their platforms for meaningful causes. He also opens up about how some lifestyle changes reshaped his priorities and songwriting process.

DAAN will be performing at “SHOW UP FOR HUMANITY” in Brussels on September 20th , 2025.
