On May 9, 2024, during the trial of Karen Read, neighbors Chris and Julie Albert testified about the events surrounding the death of Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe. Both recounted seeing O'Keefe and Read at the Waterfall Bar & Grille on the night in question, noting that Read arrived carrying a drinking glass, which they found unusual. While the Alberts did not attend the subsequent gathering at 34 Fairview Road—where O'Keefe's body was later discovered—their teenage son, Colin, did. The defense questioned the Alberts about potential conflicts between Colin and O'Keefe, suggesting a strained relationship, which they denied. Additionally, the defense highlighted the close relationships between the Alberts and key figures in the investigation, including lead investigator Trooper Michael Proctor, suggesting potential biases in the case.

In the Karen Read murder trial, Jennifer McCabe, a friend of both Read and the deceased officer John O'Keefe, provided pivotal testimony. She recounted that on January 29, 2022, at approximately 6:23 a.m., at Read's request, she searched "how long to die in cold" on Google after they discovered O'Keefe's body in the snow. The defense, however, challenged this timeline, suggesting that McCabe conducted the search earlier, around 2:27 a.m., implying prior knowledge of O'Keefe's condition. McCabe denied this, maintaining that she performed the search only upon Read's prompting after finding O'Keefe.
