NOT Overreacting to Week 1

Frank and Eddie discuss the major headlines from Week 1 of the NFL and do their best not to overreact to the first week of football. There were comfortable wins for the Jags, Bears, Raiders, and Ravens, but were there any concerns despite wins for the Seahawks, Lions, and Eagles? And how much should we read into the Giants' win over the Cowboys, the 49ers manhandling the Rams, the Vikings' bizarre comeback against the Packers, and the Cardinals' surprising win against the Chargers?  Plus, there was controversy again in the Premier League as City won the Manchester Derby. Eddie shares his thoughts on the Foden red card, as well as another baffling VAR decision that allowed Haaland's winner to stand and pile more pressure on Carrick and Manchester United. 

Frank and Eddie make their previews and predictions for the 2026 NFL season. They're expecting strong things out of the NFC West and the NFC North, but think that the Super Bowl winners could be the LA Rams. Will the Seahawks, 49ers, Bears, Lions, Cowboys, or Eagles be able to challenge them in the NFC? In the AFC, can the Patriots repeat their strong season? Or will the Ravens, Bills, or Broncos be able to stop them? All that and more... And then our predictions for every game from Week 1 of the 2026 NFL Season. Including the historic game between the Rams and the 49ers in Melbourne, Australia. As well as a heated divisional rivalry between the Cowboys and the Giants. 

Eddie and Frank start by sharing some recent travel stories. Eddie's trip to Antibes involved a slow Uber driver and overly vigilant train passengers, and Frank's flight to Porto lacked any watchable movies. With little to watch, Eddie is enjoying season 2 of 'Chad Powers'.  The Premier League mostly went to form at the weekend, but Arsenal got a big win against Chelsea. Eddie thinks they could learn a thing or two from Lane Kiffin and lean into the hate. Mbappe is embracing the haters after some bizarre quotes in a recent press conference. And College Football is back, with Michigan's controversial win over Western Michigan stealing the headlines.  And with the NFL season just around the corner, Frank and Eddie discuss the different approaches that the San Francisco 49ers and the LA Rams have taken ahead of their game in Melbourne, Australia. And Eddie shares some interesting quotes from Kyle Shanahan and Nick Bosa. 

Eddie made his long-awaited return to cricket, and it has made him even more confident about some claims he made about Paul Collingwood 20 years ago. With Aaron Donald announcing his return to the Los Angeles Rams and the NFL, will his comeback be as successful as Eddie's? And what does Novak Djokovic's first-round exit at the US Open mean for his future? And the second weekend of Premier League action saw comfortable wins for Manchester City and Manchester United, but there are more warning signs for Spurs and Liverpool. 

The Jed York arrest continues to get weirder as more details emerge, but is the NFL prepared for the prospect of Jake Paul playing in the future? Frank is enjoying the chaos of the European football transfer window; will Manchester City, Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool continue to splash the cash in the final days of the window?  Eddie doesn't believe that FIFA's punishment for Argentina's behaviour during the World Cup is sufficient, especially as Argentina are looking for creative ways to offset their financial penalties. England cricket has once again been rocked by a drinking scandal, and Frank and Eddie look into some of the unofficial requirements for the NFL Hall of Fame. Plus, 'Ted Lasso' has chosen to focus on women's football in season 4, but are they doing a good job of making it look good? 

The 2025/26 Premier League season is underway, but the Big Chill Podcast famously avoids overreaction. But did Frank or Eddie change any of their opinions after poor performances from Manchester United and Tottenham, hard-fought wins for Manchester City and Chelsea, and a comfortable 3 points for Arsenal?  Eddie is certainly unimpressed with the US Open's pre-tournament mixed doubles event, but Nick Kyrgios is an unlikely future participant after he failed a drug test following cocaine usage. What does the future hold for the maverick Australian? Deshaun Watson has been named as the starting quarterback for the Browns, and both Frank and Eddie are stunned by how he has handled the backlash in Cleveland. And the San Francisco 49ers are once again in the news for the wrong reasons, but this time it is after their owner, Jed York, got himself arrested in Ohio during a prostitution sting. Plus, former co-host Sam might have a new nickname, and Frank is nearly caught up on 'From', but is the show intentionally frustrating viewers, or is it just not that good?
