A Sudbury man's quest to have Toe Blake's number retired

Toe Blake was born just outside of Sudbury, he won the Hart Trophy in 1939, led the Canadiens to two Stanley Cups as a player and captain, and then as coach won eight more, including an unmatched streak of five in a row. Yet despite all that, his jersey was never retired by the Canadiens. Dr. Maurice St. Martin from Sudbury has put together a 60-page presentation called “Why Not Toe?”, has spoken with Toe Blake’s relatives, and is campaigning to see his number hung in the rafters. We’ve been following the ongoing power outage issues in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, where hundreds of residents have been dealing with frequent blackouts for years. Last month, we spoke with the Mayor of DDO about the problem, and just last week we had a Hydro-Québec representative on to explain what they’re doing about it. But what does it feel like for the people living with these outages day after day? Michael Common spoke to Andrew Carter.

Doctors across Quebec are taking unprecedented action this week in protest of Bill 106. New legislation from the provincial government that they say strips them of autonomy and threatens the future of medicine in this province. In efforts to push back, physicians will stop teaching medical students and put a pause on administrative duties. Dr. Karine Igartua, head of psychiatry at the McGill University Health Centre and a board member of the Fédération des Médecins Spécialistes du Québec spoke to Andrew Carter.
