*Trigger Warning: Conversations about interrupted pregnancies aka (abortion) come up in this discussion.*

Hey Fairy Fam, in this episode for The Afro Fairy Goddess Podcast, I bring a new friend Dr. Emilie “Zila“ Jabouin who I met, through the season of Emancipation here in Barbados via my extended community work offline.

Listen up as we talk about Haitian arts, space and spirituality and how it connects to dance.  We also spoke heavily on her project, “The Release” which uses Ayisyen (Haitian) Folk dance, drumming and singing to challenge misconceptions of interrupted pregnancies.

'The Release' explores the multiple and complex emotions, social and personal pressures of black women and Afro-descendant Caribbean child bearers’ experiences with bodily autonomy and the question of choice.

Red and black cover art, was taken from "The Release". The photo of Dr. Jabouin was taken by Dawit Tibebu.
