The Language Beyond Words: Listening to the Intelligence of Plants An intimate conversation with author Sydney Kale
This episode was pure magic.
From the very first exchange, Sydney Kale's garden joined the conversation chiming in with its own personality and timing, while the fungi at her new home had plenty to say as well. The night before we recorded, the garden from her book I, Garden actually arrived and asked to open the episode. So we let them.
What followed was unlike any conversation I've had on this show. The plants from Sydney's books began interviewing her posing questions that genuinely felt as though they came from them. The fungi piped up loudly. There was a hilarious shift in my voice as they moved through me. Sydney took all of it with brilliant, good-humoured grace.
It was heart-open, playful, and full of an all-pervading sense of delight.
Sydney is the author of The Love Language of Plants and Becoming Written, and this conversation sits right at the intersection of both as if the two books were in dialogue with each other, and the plants were the ones who knew it first.
