Century Lithium CEO Bill Willoughby joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss the company’s plans to develop a commercial-scale chlor-alkali (CA) plant designed to support both the growing critical minerals supply chain across the Western United States and the future development of its Angel Island Lithium Project in Nevada. Willoughby said the proposed facility represents a strategic opportunity to create an independent, revenue-generating business while strengthening domestic supply chains for key industrial chemicals that are essential to lithium processing, rare earth separation and advanced materials production. Chlor-alkali products, including chlorine, hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide, are critical reagents used throughout the battery metals and critical minerals industries. Beyond their role in lithium extraction and refining, these chemicals are also used extensively in rare earth processing, precious metals production, water treatment, manufacturing and a wide range of industrial and consumer applications. The proposed plant would utilize sodium chloride, water and electricity to produce these essential chemicals at an initial targeted production rate of 300 short tons per day of chlorine. The facility is being designed with scalability in mind, allowing production capacity to potentially double to 600 short tons per day depending on regional demand and future requirements from the Angel Island project. A significant validation of the concept has already emerged through customer interest. Century Lithium has entered into eight non-binding memoranda of understanding with third-party companies across multiple industrial and chemical sectors. Collectively, these potential offtake agreements could account for the entire initial production capacity of the proposed plant, demonstrating strong market demand for domestically produced chlor-alkali products. Willoughby emphasized that the company continues to engage with additional prospective customers as it advances commercial discussions and evaluates long-term supply agreements. To identify the optimal location for the facility, Century Lithium conducted an extensive review of candidate sites in Nevada and Utah. The evaluation considered key factors including access to feedstock supplies, electrical power availability, rail infrastructure, proximity to customers, land ownership considerations and permitting requirements. On timeline, Willoughby said the company is targeting a construction decision within under a year, and expects permitting to be relatively straightforward given the use of an existing infrastructure site rather than a greenfield federal land location. #proactiveinvestors #centurylithiumcorp #tsxv #lce #otcqx #cydvf #mining #AngelIsland #LithiumProject #NevadaMining NevadaMining #BatteryMaterials #CriticalMinerals #EnergyTransition #EVBatteries #MiningNews #ResourceInvesting
