L-Chedda is one of the original rappers from Sunnydale, one of San Francisco’s most notorious projects. He saw the rise of hip-hop in the city, as well as the turf wars and the crack epidemic. Cheddar flipped street money to co-found Butt Naked Records and put out groups from his hood like Down N Dirty Hustlas and Ghetto Soldiers. He caught an out-of-state case in 2006 which resulted in a 6-year prison sentence. Since coming home, Chedda has focused on legitimate careers, pushing his music catalogue, and mentoring the new generation of youth in Sunnydale.--Essential Bay Area Rap Playlist: https://fanlink.tv/historyofthebay-playlist--Join the Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/dregsone--For promo opportunities on the podcast, e-mail [email protected] Store: https://dregsone.myshopify.com --Follow Dregs One:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1UNuCcJlRb8ImMc5haZHXF?si=poJT0BYUS-qCfpEzAX7mlAInstagram: https://instagram.com/dregs_oneTikTok: https://tiktok.com/@dregs_oneTwitter: https://twitter.com/dregs_oneFacebook: https://facebook.com/dregsone41500:00 Growing up in SF05:27 Moving to Sunnydale15:37 Crack era 21:29 Hip-hop in SF30:35 Peter Lee37:20 Trying to make peace41:39 Turf wars49:32 2pac, Black C54:41 Butt Naked Records1:02:52 Cougnut1:04:21 Hustlin over music1:07:18 Solo album1:12:59 34 Village1:18:50 Catching a case1:26:57 Getting back to music1:33:28 New Sunnydale rappers

Cycle has been putting it down in the graffiti world from Connecticut, New York, Washington DC, San Francisco, and back. He got into the skating culture of the 80's before entering the graffiti scene of the tristate area. From there, Cycle's studies as an art student took him to different cities and he continued painting wherever he went. Eventually returning to NYC, he now focuses on his art career but still maintains a passion for his graffiti roots. --Essential Bay Area Rap Playlist: https://fanlink.tv/historyofthebay-playlist--Join the Patreon: https://patreon.com/dregsone--0:00 Connecticut4:20 Skating9:45 Getting into graffiti21:23 IMOK crew24:11 Washington DC37:48 Baltimore 39:23 Moving to SF54:11 BA crew59:35 Tie1:07:13 Art school1:17:16 Smith1:22:57 Legal art world

The Bay Area is a region with undeniable talent, but it hasn't become a permanent hip-hop power center. We've had plenty of artists with hits and worldwide acclaim, but there are so many rappers who haven't had the spotlight. Many fans have wondered why the Bay seems so slept on, and never achieved the same level of success as other regions. One reason is that so many artists - including our BIGGEST superstars - have been held back by death, prison, and other consequences of the streets. This is a deep dive into some of the tragic circumstances that have derailed Bay Area rap.--Essential Bay Area Rap Playlist: https://fanlink.tv/historyofthebay-podcast--Join the Patreon: https://patreon.com/dregsone--0:00 Intro2:19 Rapper deaths9:33 Rappers doing time17:15 Addiction & mental health20:03 Conclusion
