Carmen Jimenez, Executive Director at Graywolf Press in conversation with with Aisha Sabatini Sloan, author of Dreaming of Ramadi in Detroit, (Graywolf Press) and Roberto Tejada, author of Carbonate of Copper (Fordham University Press). Aisha is also the author of The Fluency of Light, Borealis, and Captioning the Archives. She's an assistant professor of English at the University of Michigan. Roberto Tejada is the author of numerous poetry collections and several books on art and media history.He is a professor of creative writing and art history at the University of Houston.    Today's lab will consider the relationships between writers and visual artists  and consider how we write about art, race, and personal experience. 

Yuka Igarashi, editor at Graywolf Press, hosts this conversation with writers, scholars, and artists Stephanie Burt, Tracy O'Neill, Michael Salu, and Elissa Washuta all of whom are writing and thinking about games in various ways.

Our publisher Carmen Giménez speaks to Laura Marris, author of The Age of Loneliness, and Roger Reeves, most recently the author of Dark Days: Fugitive Essays about the role of the essayist and critic today. They discuss the intellectual's engagement with publics outside the page——classroom as mutual aid society, community science, oral history——and the idea of gap gardening. "Can we make space in the essay for people to hear themselves think?"

In this inaugural episode, Graywolf's executive editor Yuka Igarashi explores the theme of time with an interdisciplinary group of artists. First, we hear from Kweku Abimbola —Graywolf published his debut poetry collection, Saltwater Demands a Psalm in April. Then Lisa Hsiao Chen, author of the 2022 novel Activities of Daily Living, followed by performance artist, theater artist, and educator Daniel Alexander Jones. Lastly we hear from Thao Nguyen, best known for her band Thao and the Get Down Stay Down. The podcast opens with an introduction by Graywolf Press publisher, Carmen Giménez.
