A 14-year-old boy has been taken into police custody after gunshots rang out in north Etobicoke on Tuesday afternoon; two workers had to be rescued from near the top of Toronto’s St. Regis Hotel after a cable snapped on a swing stage; and, Conservative candidate Don Stewarts' byelection victory in a long-time Liberal riding has sent shockwaves through Canada's political sphere.

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with murder for a mass shooting outside a Toronto school, killing two men and wounding three others; Flemingdon Park residents say they are feeling abandoned after police left the scene where dozens of gunshots were fired into a unit; and, questions are being raised about whether the sudden closure of the Ontario Science Centre for safety reasons was necessary.

The Ford government announced the sudden and immediate closure of the Ontario Science Centre citing a collapsing roof; a Vaughan neighbourhood is reeling after four people were shot inside a home, killing one of them in what police say was targeted; and, the death of at least two dogs while in the care of a Hamilton dog-sitting service called Kippen Care has attracted anger among residents.

Rick Leary announced at a press conference Thursday he will step down from his position as the TTC CEO as of Aug. 30; Rebel News has claimed ownership of a cube van spotted around Toronto displaying a message targeted at Muslims; an Ontario woman says she felt duped after giving $46,000 of her life savings to a psychic who claimed he could cleanse her 'evil spirits.'

A makeshift shrine is growing as a community mourns after a six-year-old boy was fatally struck by a school bus in Vaughan; the fatal shooting for a 21-year-old woman in Vaughan Mills' parking lot escalated to a police takedown of the alleged shooters in Brampton; and, the wife of the alleged gunman of a double-murder suicide says he believed the two victims had scammed their family of their life savings.

Toronto police have identified the two victims of a triple fatal shooting in North York as Arash Missaghi and Samira Yousefi; Toronto residents are being urged to exercise caution during this week’s heat wave as temperatures may hit 40 C with the humidity; and, anyone planning to travel to the United States with their dog after Aug. 1 must comply to strict new rules or risk being denied entry. 

Three adults are dead following a shooting inside a building near Don Mills and York Mills, sending a nearby school and daycare into lockdown; several pools have extended their hours ahead of a heat dome expected to bring temperatures up to 40 with the humidex to Toronto this week; and, the union representing more than 8,000 LCBO workers voted overwhelmingly in favour of a strike amid negotiations with the province.

Two of Toronto's five ferries are out of service this weekend for repairs, prompting an alert by the city to expect "long wait times"; the sex assault charges against billionaire Frank Stronach involved three women allegedly victimized between the 1980s and 2023; and, local businesses are gearing up as thousands are expected to descend on College St. for the 'Taste of Little Italy' festival.

Traffic in downtown Toronto is expected to worsen as track work on Spadina will force the TTC to replace streetcars with buses for the remainder of 2024; a battle is brewing between a small corner store near Ossington and the City of Toronto over the right to serve coffee and baked goods; and, criminals are now ordering expensive products to your home and then stealing them in a new kind of porch pirate scam called 'double decker'.

Convenience store owners are concerned about the Beer Store selling lottery tickets; a court has dismissed the legal challenge to Ontario Place redevelopment; and, a medication for chronic migraines has been approved.
